Job Description

Job Requirements Performs patient observation functions and applies technical skills of a limited uncomplicated nature. Remotely provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients using audio/visual technology. Verbally directs the patient from engaging in risky behaviors. Following department procedures and escalation process, summons unit staff if the patient requires assistance. Knowledgeable and supportive of patient and institutional confidentiality and related topics Primary Responsibilities The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed. Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Telesitter program:
  • Ensure consistent enforcement of program guidelines and UMMS policies.
  • Conduct thorough shift handoff of all patients with incoming and outgoing Charge Technician to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Provide comprehensive shift reports to clinical unit teams, highlighting high-acuity or resource-intensive patients.
  • Update staffing schedule with day-to-day changes (e.g., callouts, split shifts, etc.).
  • Maintain detailed shift logs by documenting census data, staffing information, and other relevant operational metrics.
  • Maintain/update phone logs and locker sheets, etc.
  • Oversee the program admission waitlist and maintain timely, professional communication with member organizations regarding placement updates.
  • Understand the unique complexities of each member organization to effectively assess how the care environment influences patient needs within the program.
  • Facilitate the admission of new patients into the program and coordinate closely with the local clinical unit team to ensure a smooth transition of care.
  • Actively manage patient distribution among Observation Tech during the shift and prepare equitable assignments for the incoming team, based on established program guidelines.
  • Submit UMMSafe(s) from the shift and notify leadership when applicable.
  • Manage break distribution during the shift to maintain adequate operational coverage and workflow continuity.
  • Submit, monitor, and follow up on IS&T Helpdesk tickets to support resolution of system and technology-related issues.
  • Oversee Axis cameras for the program which are a critical backup for downtime procedures.
  • Engage in special projects as determined by program leadership.
Program Team Member Support:
  • Serves as an escalation point for situations that require additional support between Observation Tech and unit staff.
  • Works to resolve disputes/solve problems that would otherwise inhibit productivity and workflow and escalate to Supervisor or other program leadership as needed.
  • Engage in the hiring process by participating in a second-round interview and coordinating share time with the candidate and the team.
  • Oversee the new team member onboarding based on the plan provided by the supervisor.
  • Provides training, coaching, and mentorship to both new and current team members to support their professional development and performance.
  • Collaborate with Supervisor to support team member engagement efforts.
  • Support Supervisor with schedule creation as requested.
  • Participate in standing meetings with other Senior Observation Techs to share lessons learned and provide support for each other.
  • Provide additional support for the program, to include but not limited to reviewing Observation Tech documentation or briefly monitoring patients for support.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned. Work Experience Education & Experience - Required
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant/Medical Assistant.
  • Current American Heart Association CPR certification.
  • Basic computer operations skills.
  • 3 years' full-time professional work experience in the remote safety observation field. Education & Experience - Preferred
  • One year full-time prior direct patient care work experience in a health care facility is required, and two years full-time direct patient care work in a health care facility.
Benefits Compensation:
$16.68-$24.76
