Job Description

Position Summary Veterinary Pharmaceutical Solutions (VPS) is seeking an IT Specialist to serve as the primary on-site technology resource for our veterinary compounding pharmacy facility in St. Peter, MN. This role owns day-to-day IT operations, delivers hands-on end user support, and contributes to strategic process improvement and system implementation initiatives. In addition to supporting VPS directly, this individual will participate in a global helpdesk function providing secondary remote support to a sister company, Diamond Animal Health. This is a high-ownership, high-visibility role suited for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, takes initiative without being asked, and can operate as a capable generalist across both operational and project-oriented work. We're looking for someone who listens carefully, asks good questions, and solves problems at the root rather than patching symptoms. If you're driven by curiosity and take ownership instinctively, you'll fit here. What This Role Offers Unlike typical IT support roles, this position offers direct ownership of an entire facility's technology environment with meaningful exposure to cross-functional improvement initiatives. You will be the person who keeps VPS running and collaborates directly with leadership to shape how technology evolves here. Success requires strong technical fundamentals, sound judgment, and the ability to translate operational problems into practical solutions. The role is designed with a technical growth path in mind for the right candidate. Location On-site — St. Peter, MN Remote Support Secondary helpdesk support for Diamond Animal Health via global helpdesk function Reports To Director of IT Role Environment Fast-paced, collaborative, ownership-oriented Key Responsibilities End User Support & Daily Operations Serve as the first point of contact for all IT-related issues at the VPS St. Peter facility Own the full lifecycle of end user hardware and software — including procurement coordination, installation, configuration, moves/adds/changes, and ongoing maintenance Troubleshoot and resolve end user issues efficiently, minimizing downtime across a 30-person operation Escalate complex issues appropriately while maintaining ownership of resolution Provide secondary remote IT support for Diamond Animal Health through a shared global helpdesk function Vendor & Systems Management Serve as the local point of contact for third-party vendors Support SaaS solution providers by triaging end user issues, coordinating escalations, and performing local administration and configuration of systems as required Maintain working knowledge of supported systems to provide effective first-line support Document system configurations, vendor contacts, and support procedures to ensure continuity and institutional knowledge Project & Process Improvement Support Support project management activities for strategic IT and business process improvement initiatives Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing system implementations and technology upgrades Document processes, configurations, and project outcomes to build institutional knowledge Partner with business leadership and cross-functional teams to identify technology gaps and recommend practical solutions Required Qualifications 1-3 years of experience in an IT support, helpdesk, or systems technician role Demonstrated ability to support end users across hardware, software, and network-related issues Experience with Windows-based environments and standard productivity tools (Microsoft 365) Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently without day-to-day technical oversight Clear, professional communication skills — able to translate technical issues for non-technical staff Organized, dependable, and able to manage competing priorities in a small-team environment Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting healthcare, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or similarly regulated environment Familiarity with helpdesk ticketing systems and remote support tools Exposure to IT project coordination or process improvement initiatives Microsoft 365
Certified:
Endpoint Administrator Associate (MD-102) or equivalent CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent certification Key Skills and Attributes Emotional Intelligence Reads the room and builds trust quickly, especially with frustrated or non-technical users. Curiosity & Continuous Learning Approaches unfamiliar problems with genuine interest rather than anxiety. Actively seeks to understand why, not just what. Root Cause Thinking Solves the general problem, not just the specific. Digs until they understand the underlying cause and closes the loop permanently. Communication Listens before speaking. Asks clarifying questions before jumping to solutions. Writes and speaks clearly to technical and non-technical audiences alike. Initiative Doesn't wait to be told. Spots gaps, proposes solutions, and moves. Communicates what they did and why. Relationship Building Invests in people, not just problems. Earns trust across the organization over time, making them more effective as a resource and a partner. Fact-Driven Judgment Grounds decisions and recommendations in data and evidence. Comfortable saying "I don't know yet" and finding out before acting Why Join Veterinary Pharmaceutical Solutions Play a meaningful role in a mission-driven company advancing animal health through pharmaceutical innovation Own your domain — this is not a support role buried in a large IT org; your work directly shapes the technology environment at VPS Grow on a technical career path with increasing scope and responsibility as VPS scales Join a collaborative, fast-moving team that values initiative, continuous improvement, and practical results Competitive benefits including 401k match and health, dental, and vision insurance with premiums as low as $0 per month.
