Duties Help Administers the base Local Area Network (LAN). Implements new network opering systems hardware and software and develops base wide network opering procedures. Analyzes LAN utilizion stistics through da collection and performance measures to ensure the smooth, reliable, and robust operion of LANs to include classified and unclassified networks. Coordines LAN installion, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reviews, evalues, and fine-tunes components such as virtual servers, hubs, switches, and routers to achieve peak efficiency within the overall network connectivity. Assists in the development, configurion, installion, and maintenance of network systems to include the LAN/WAN. Receives network, communicions, and reled opering systems from various sources such as design centers and commercial vendors. Maintains an inventory of all network hardware and software. Installs, configures, and troubleshoots network and applicion server hardware, network opering system software, and peripheral network equipment such as routers, bridges, cabling system, network interface cards, modems, multiplexers, and concentrors. Develops and maintains base wide procedures for networks, system operions, backups, and product assembly and installion. Implements network opering system and/or network applicion software, and maintain contact with software suppliers to ensure th current releases of software products are in use. Conducts testing of network systems to ensure current network software products are compible with system configurions and to ensure operability, efficiency, and compliance with existing standards. Monitors operion of the LAN/WAN and ensures hardware and network opering software are functioning properly and th operion standards are met. Function tests systems components to identify and resolve technical problems, analyze system malfunctions, implement necessary corrective actions, and provide ongoing support for the resolution of complex problems and opering malfunctions. Performs system backups to ensure expedient restorion of the dabase for the respective network equipment. Assists customers on the use of office automion computers, local and wide area networks, and other automed tools. Ensures backups of network equipment configurion da are current. Resolves LAN reled problems for the base. Conducts problem analysis to identify trends, ineffective practices or procedures, and equipment shortcomings. Identifies and documents network requirements for specific needs of customers. Determines if the facility environment can provide for network system requirements, and if infrastructure is in place to support the system. Conducts in-depth analyses of network usage, user complaints, traffic interruptions, hardware and software capabilities, and other relevant factors. Changes the components of existing equipment for efficient operion or recommends major modificions to existing systems. Recommends methods and procedures and coordines corrective action to optimize utilizion of present equipment. Plans for current and future technology integrion and works issues for compibility and standardizion based on current and projected customer needs. Analyzes LAN utilizion stistics, performance measures, and system profiles to ensure network robustness in serving the business needs of the installion. Forecasts future needs and prepares recommendions, justificions, and specificions for LAN equipment. Determines when improvements in networking capability are needed and makes detailed technical recommendions to the senior system specialist. Develops test procedures and participes in progress reviews with opering officials, system programmers, computer users, and others to determine the reliability and productivity, ascertain user friendliness, applicability to the work environment, and compibility of system hardware and software with existing networks. Ensures applicable operion and maintenance policies and standards are maintained. Reviews literure, assesses reports of ste-of-the-art advances in software/hardware, and assesses applicability and impact of introducing new developments to current configurions. Ensures th inquiries and problems are expeditiously resolved. Maintains required informion assurance certificion IAW DoD 8570.01-M, Federal Informion Security Management Act of 2002, Clinger Cohen Act of 1996 in order to ensure the rigorous applicion of informion security and assurance policies in the delivery of network services. Serves as a network security administror for a large number of users on the installion. Performs other duties as assigned and not listed here. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
Selectee required to wear the military uniform. This is an excepted service position th requires membership in the employing ste's Nional Guard. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigion. May be required to successfully complete a probionary period. Participion in direct deposit is mandory. Appointments in the Title 32 MTNG technician program may termine/suspend your military incentives; please see your MTNG Retention Office/Military Personnel Incentive Program Manager for details. Must be able to obtain and maintain the approprie security clearance of the position. External applicants must be able to start within 6 months of selection. Maintains required informion assurance certificion IAW DoD 8570.01-M, Federal Informion Security Management Act of 2002, Clinger Cohen Act of 1996, and current AF directives. Conducts travel to and from offsite worksite(s) from the normal work area to perform assigned duties. This may include Opering Locions (OL) and GSUs. Due to distances involved, travel may involve one or more overnight stays. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. Must have one of the following: A) 1 year of experience, educion, or training which is equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-07) in receiving, maintaining, and issuing da storage media for computer operions. Experience in scheduling the use of computer time for program processing. Experience collecting and sequentially staging input media with associed program instructions for processing. Experience in least one programming language. Experience interviewing subject-mter personnel to get facts regarding work processes and synthesizing the resulting da into charts showing informion flow.
