Job Description

The City of Avon Information Technology department is looking for a permanent full time IT Technician. Knowledge of client and server operating systems, Microsoft suite, computer networking, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365 administration, and virtual hypervisors is preferred. The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to providing technical support, install, configure, maintain hardware and software components, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, create and maintain documentation and maintain hardware inventory. Any CompTIA certification or related fields with the equivalent experience which provide the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions is preferred. The successful candidate must be able to multitask, have excellent customer service and communication skills. Compensation will be based on experience with a range of $28.85 to $31.25 per hour depending on knowledge and experience. A valid Ohio Driver's license with a clean record and the ability to pass all routine background checks including a drug screening is a must. EOE/AA Responsibilities Provide comprehensive technical support to end-users for hardware, software, and network issues, ensuring quick resolution and minimal downtime Manage and maintain computer hardware components, including desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals Support and troubleshoot operating systems such as Windows and Linux Configure and manage computer networks including LAN (Local Area Network), VPN (Virtual Private Network), firewalls, and other security measures Assist with software troubleshooting across various applications including Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft 365, etc. Maintain and update IT infrastructure documentation, including help desk tickets and incident reports Collaborate with team members to implement system upgrades, security patches, and new hardware/software deployments Skills Strong technical support skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues efficiently Proficiency in computer management tasks such as installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems (Windows and Linux) Knowledge of computer networking concepts including LAN setup, VPN configuration, firewall management, and network troubleshooting Experience with help desk ticketing systems Excellent communication skills to clearly explain technical issues to non-technical users Ability to troubleshoot software problems related to operating systems and applications like Microsoft Office Understanding of computer hardware components and maintenance procedures Customer service-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving Basic knowledge of IT infrastructure components including servers, switches, routers, and security devices

$28.85 - $31.25 per hour
