Overview We are seeking a skilled and motivated Controls Engineer to support our data center controls projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in system design and a passion for developing innovative control systems. This role requires expertise in various engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and software engineering. As a Controls Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and optimizing control systems that enhance the performance and reliability of data center power and cooling systems. Below is a clear, industry-aligned set of job responsibilities for Junior Controls / System Integration Engineers tailored to EPMS, power monitoring, and data center environments like your scope. Job Responsibilities 1. System Integration Support Assist in integration of electrical and control systems into
EPMS/BMS
platforms. Support configuration of field devices including power meters, PLCs, relays, and I/O modules. Participate in commissioning of systems using protocols such as: Modbus TCP/IP BACnet/IP Hardwired I/O (digital/analog) 2. Field Installation & Commissioning Support installation verification of: CAT6 and fiber communication cabling Control panels and network switches Field devices (meters, sensors, breakers) Perform point-to-point checkout and loop testing. Assist in startup activities for power distribution systems (PDCs, PDPs, BACOP systems). Record and document field issues and resolutions. 3. Network & Communication Support Assist with setup and verification of industrial networks: IP addressing and device configuration Ethernet switch connections Basic troubleshooting of network communication issues Verify communication between devices and EPMS servers. Perform network continuity and cable testing. 4. Programming & Configuration Support configuration and minor programming tasks in:
SCADA/EPMS
platforms PLCs and gateways Assist in mapping field points based on I/O lists and point schedules. Validate device registers (Modbus/BACnet) under supervision. 5. Graphics & Visualization Assist in development and updates of system graphics such as: Electrical one-line diagrams Equipment views and dashboards Alarm and trend displays Ensure graphics align with company/client standards (e.g., AWS graphics guidelines). 6. Documentation & Quality Control Maintain accurate documentation including: As-built drawings Wiring diagrams Commissioning reports Track and update point lists and integration checklists. Ensure work complies with project specifications and standards. 7. Vendor & Team Coordination Coordinate with: Equipment vendors (metering, switchgear, etc) Electrical contractors and installation teams Support senior engineers in technical discussions and issue resolution. 8. Troubleshooting & Support Assist in diagnosing issues related to: Device communication failures Incorrect data readings Alarm and control logic issues Escalate complex issues to senior engineers with clear documentation. 9. Safety & Compliance Follow all site safety procedures, especially in energized electrical environments.
Ensure compliance with:
Electrical safety standards Company engineering and commissioning protocols 10. Professional Development Expectations Actively build knowledge in: Power monitoring systems Industrial networking Control system architectures Learn AWS/data center standards and best practices. Progress toward independent execution of small integration tasks.
