Job Description

PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Engineer II IT, Network Engineering at our Tysons, Virginia location. The primary purpose of this role is to perform engineering and implementation of specific tasks on enterprise infrastructure systems, services and applications. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, system design; standards-based implementation, capacity planning, systems integration, process / procedure development and refinement, troubleshooting and technical support. Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered. Associate or bachelor s Degree in related field is preferred. In lieu of a degree, combination of education and a minimum of six (6) years of related work experience is required that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to perform all essential job functions. Demonstrated understanding of Networking, Compute, Storage, Cloud, Distributed Systems and End-User technologies. Strong interpersonal, problem solving and multi-tasking skills desired. Excellent communication skills. Must be able to present system designs for user approval at formal reviews. Must be capable to provide solutions to identified systems issues. Minimum of five (5) years of experience with Cisco (switching, routing, ACI), F5 (load balancing), Infoblox (IPAM/DNS), NetBrain and Silver Peak. Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) experience highly preferred. Competency with routing/networking protocols to include but not limited to; EIGRP, BGP, SIP, etc. Radius / TACACS experience a must
MPLS / IWAN
/ Hybrid cloud experience required. AWS experience preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of experience with wired and wireless architectures. Experience using A.I. tools preferred. Supervisory Responsibility This position will not supervise employees. Licenses and Certifications There are no additional licenses and/or certifications required. Provide network engineering deliverables supporting WAN/LAN and telecom network infrastructure supporting PenFed domestic, international and branch locations. Participate with implementation of new network technologies and platforms. Troubleshooting and triage of network hardware, applications, network providers and platform issues and outages. Act as a primary initial point of escalation in resolving network issues as requested by other technical peers and department management. Contribute delivery of assigned network projects and assignments. Participate / lead new PenFed branch and facility turn ups and decommissionings. Coordinate new circuit installations, upgrades and disconnections with PenFed network providers. Triage and troubleshoot PenFed network carrier outages and service interruptions as needed. Coordinate restoration of network services as necessary. Participate in on-call rotations as scheduled. Estimated at 1 week per month. Responsible for following established change control and deployment policies and procedures. Manage resolution of assigned tickets from Network Team ticket queue. Maintain and update enterprise ITAM database, architectural and configuration documentation as required. Perform routine operational tasks, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, resources, systems, and key processes. Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs. Perform systems related maintenance such as systems rebooting, patching, backups, snapshots, upgrades, health monitoring, hardware/software asset management, software distribution and systems decommissioning. Install, configure, test and maintain systems, application software and infrastructure tools. Serve as a key team member using existing technical knowledge and skills to perform specific projects independently. Maintain the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability. Interact with senior engineers and management to identify areas of improvement for operational efficiency. Work closely with technical and non-technical personnel within and across PenFed departments and vendors. Availability to work a hybrid remote/in-office schedule up to 50% in office.
