Job Description

Senior Information Technology Engineer General Statement of Duties Provides technical expertise in the planning, implementation, administration and management of information technology systems and infrastructure to support and enhance agency operations. Distinguishing Features of the Class An employee in this class installs, upgrades, supports, configures, repairs and replaces stand-alone and networked computers, communications, imaging and facility security hardware and software, as well as plans, organizes, develops and recommends agency-wide information systems and computer operations. Work includes assisting the I.T. Director with identifying and analyzing individual and agency-wide information technology needs, problems and requests, researching and identifying options and recommending cost-effective approaches and solutions that enhance system performance and user productivity. Work requires extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows networks, IP networking and advanced critical thinking skills, the ability to, clearly and respectfully, communicate, orally and in writing, about technical matters to a variety of users, the ability to meet deadlines, exercise discretion and judgment, demonstrate enthusiasm and work individually and on teams. Work is largely accomplished through collaborative decision-making with other employees, Leadership and Senior Team members. Work is evaluated through observation, conferences, goal achievement and Significant Incidents that demonstrate job competency, quality, quantity, timeliness and results. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Information Technology Director. Work is formally reviewed, and future goals are set, during an annual performance appraisal.   • recognize boundaries, value diversity, behave in a direct and nonjudgmental manner Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties and Tasks Collaborate and support the IT Director in developing and executing the IT strategic plan, including technology roadmap, budget planning, and resource allocation Identifies, evaluates, recommends and procures information and data systems and network hardware, software, supplies and other electronic devices, user hardware and software, communication systems ,facility security and monitoring systems including fire, security and surveillance systems and projectors, fax and electronic conferencing devices and services Manages agency-wide internet, intranet and social media and public website systems and services, networks and e-mail Manages web-based MDM, network management, antimalware suites Design, implement, and maintain IT systems and infrastructure, including servers, networks, data back-up, security systems, and cloud platforms Respectfully supervise IT staff, providing technical guidance and leadership Shares IT Helpdesk and support duties for all users and systems Oversee and manage IT projects with a focus on adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards Diagnose and resolve complex IT issues, providing timely and effective solutions.

Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations Provides IT-related training and resources to employees and workgroups Additional Job Duties May serve on agency-wide or cross-functional teams as a member or as a leader Performs related duties as required Recruitment and Selection Guidelines Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of PC hardware, Windows operating systems, networking, and common business software applications Extensive knowledge of IP networking, protocols, routing and switching, VPN, configuring routers, switches and security appliances Extensive knowledge of and experience with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite, Verkada and Meraki Systems. Thorough knowledge of cloud-based computer applications, data storage and security procedures Thorough knowledge concerning configuration and maintenance of wireless networking equipment Thorough knowledge regarding conventional analog, digital and wireless telephone equipment Knowledge of and ability to remain current with rapidly changing capabilities and limitations of information systems and computer and communications technology Advanced critical-thinking skills analyzing IT-related problems, developing and testing hypothesis and discovering and recommending appropriate solutions Considerable ability to configure, install, upgrade and repair Windows PCs, servers and peripheral devices Considerable ability to organize and maintain written and electronic documentation Considerable ability to understand and implement technical computer language and manuals Considerable ability to clearly and respectfully, communicate orally and in writing Considerable ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, department managers, vendors, computer specialists and school personnel Demonstrated ability to respectfully instruct, train and support system users and interpret and respectfully explain IT-related conditions and issues to management and users Proven ability to demonstrate the agency's principles of Teamwork, Communication, Quality and Respect Physical Requirements Must be able to perform the basic life operational skills of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess the visual acuity and mental capacity to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer, read extensively at distances close to the eye, use measurement devices, perform visual inspections and assemble parts of a system. Special Requirements Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver License. Must pass a physical and communicable diseases exam. Must be allowed to work in NC childcare setting. Education and Experience Graduation from a regionally
  • or CHEA-accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field and a minimum of five years of relevant experience is required.
Experience must include roles involving Managing or Administering systems and networks.
Prefer:
Experience with server virtualization, Google Workspace, Cisco equipment, Verkada, Meraki, and Cisco PBX. Eight years of experience Relevant certifications such as Comptia Server+, VMWare
VCP, CCNA, ITIL
Foundations or other higher level I.T. certifications Fluency in Spanish An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable. An employee in this classification is exempt under FLSA and ineligible for overtime pay.
