BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY
Performs moderately complex (journey-level) computer systems and multimedia audio/visual equipment support work. Work involves providing customer support for agency information technology systems and operating automated office equipment in a stand-alone, network, or mainframe environment. Reports to the Director of Distributive Learning. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor and maintain TMD's IT infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and security. Enforce cybersecurity protocols to protect sensitive data, systems, and communications. Conduct regular audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate risks. Maintain the integrity of network configurations, access controls, and endpoint protections. Support disaster recovery and data backup procedures to ensure business continuity. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with state and federal IT security standards. Document infrastructure changes, incident responses, and system upgrades in accordance with agency policy. Provides customer service and answers user inquiries regarding computer software, hardware operation, and the use and interface of systems and software applications. Set up and monitor video-teleconferencing systems. Manage the Distributive Learning Reporting and Scheduling System. Provide support and assistance to Distributive Learning Points of Contacts for all classroom locations, requiring travel across the state. Provide assistance in the design, development, and maintenance of various system applications. Develop training manuals and procedures and trains users in the proper use of hardware or software. Install, maintain, move, and assist in testing and upgrading new and existing hardware or software. Maintain records of daily data communication transactions, problems, remedial actions taken, and installation activities. Maintain appropriate security controls over software. Set up equipment for customer use and performs or ensures proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software. Troubleshoot software and maintains software library and documentation. May assist in the review and recommendation of the procurement and inventory of information resources hardware or software. Maintain records and prepares reports detailing equipment performance and usage. Collaborate with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional technology. Attend work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies and procedures handbook. May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters and other missions, to include holidays and weekends. Perform related work as assigned. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
2 years' experience in computer systems support work is required. Experience using Microsoft Office (such as Outlook, Word, Excel) is required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Experience working in a military environment is preferred. Experience managing thin client computers is preferred.
REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION, OR LICENSURE
Valid driver's license is required.
  • If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct agency business.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Background Investigation. Selected candidate must pass federal security background investigation. The process includes a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting. New employees must complete and sign the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Form SF85. Completed forms are submitted to the OPM for the background investigations. Eligibility to Work in the U.S. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires all new employees to present proof of eligibility to work in the United States within three (3) days of being hired. The Texas Military Department participates in E-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. All offers of employment are contingent upon the candidate having and maintaining legal authorization to work in the United States. Failure to present such authorization within the time specified by the U.S. Department of Labor will result in the offer being rescinded. Sponsorship. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship. Upon hire with the State of Texas, males between the ages of 18 through 25 must provide proof of registration or exemption with the Selective Service. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
the practices, principles, and techniques of computer operation; multimedia audio/visual equipment; information systems; computer software and hardware; information security policies and procedures; and local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN).
Skill in:
the use and support of personal computers; the use of applicable programs and systems; and troubleshooting information systems.
Ability to:
maintain the security and integrity of the Texas Military Department infrastructure; operate information technology systems; troubleshoot and repair equipment; communicate effectively; train others; and work in a military environment.
PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
Work may be performed inside in an office setting or outside at project or work sites. Work may involve sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing or crawling. Occasionally work may be performed in inclement weather and/or may be required with protective equipment. Work requires regular use of a personal computer and telephone. This position may periodically require the ability to lift, carry, move and/or set up equipment and materials that weigh up to 50 pounds. Work may involve the installation or movement of networking cables through ceilings, walls or floors. Installation of computer and periphery hardware will be required. This position requires the ability to travel to various classroom locations approximately 30% of the time.
