24 months Hours a week: 40 Hours Position Summary We are seeking a Control Systems Technician to provide day‑to‑day technical support for automation and control systems within a manufacturing and research campus environment. This role supports Control Systems Engineers and Senior Control Systems Technicians and is primarily focused on troubleshooting, diagnosing, and correcting system issues to maintain reliable operation of existing control systems. The position plays a key role in sustaining building automation, environmental monitoring, and utility control systems across office, research, and manufacturing spaces.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide daily support for identifying, troubleshooting, and correcting issues related to automation and control systems supporting office, research, and manufacturing operations. Respond to control system alarms, faults, and performance issues, assisting with root cause identification and corrective actions. Support campus-wide control systems, including: HVAC and building automation systems Environmental monitoring systems (temperature, humidity, pressure, particulate counts) Central utility systems such as chilled water and steam distribution Perform corrective maintenance on control system hardware, software, field devices, and networks under the guidance of senior technical staff. Assist Control Systems Engineers and Senior Control Systems Technicians with system diagnostics, modifications, and testing activities. Execute approved changes, parameter adjustments, and minor logic updates as directed and in accordance with established procedures. Assist with validation activities (Installation Qualification and Operational Qualification) by supporting testing, documentation, and execution tasks. Perform or assist with calibration and functional checks of sensors, transmitters, and control devices per approved procedures. Maintain accurate documentation, including updates to as‑built drawings, system records, and troubleshooting notes. Participate in preventive maintenance activities for control and automation systems. Escalate issues appropriately and communicate system conditions, risks, and status to senior technical staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic working knowledge of automation, control systems, or building management systems. Familiarity with industrial or facility control platforms or supervisory control systems (SCADA), such as: Rockwell Automation Ignition Opto 22 Moxa JACE Ability to read and follow control system sequences of operation, wiring diagrams, and basic logic documentation. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues with guidance. Demonstrated ability to think through problems logically, follow structured troubleshooting approaches, and document findings clearly. Working knowledge of common computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing software, and maintenance or engineering systems.
Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent. 1- 4 years of relevant experience in controls, automation, HVAC systems, instrumentation, or industrial maintenance. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Work Schedule:
First shift, Monday - Friday, standard business hours.
Travel Requirement:
None.
Preferred:
Associate's Degree or technical coursework in HVAC, Automation, Electronics, Mechanical Systems, or Information Technology HVAC‑related certification or controls‑related training. Experience working in regulated manufacturing, laboratory, or industrial environments.
