PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Technology Specialist I, performs foundational front-line level one (basic) technical support for software, hardware, and systems throughout the district. As a member of the technology team, this role is dedicated to supporting teaching and learning by ensuring effective system maintenance, coordinating technology use with campus staff, providing user training, and delivering professional communication to students, staff, and colleagues.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Technology Support
o Install and upgrade computers and peripherals throughout the district.
o Relocate computer hardware, peripherals, and equipment as needed to support campus operations.
o Configure desktop software applications, operating systems, network clients, productivity suites, and various educational applications.
o Connect computers, printers, and other devices to the network.
o Provide front-line support for campus-specific technology including A/V equipment, broadcast systems, Maker Space robotics and 3D printers.
o Utilize remote management tools for basic maintenance, software installation, and system repairs via the network.
o Leverage the district service request system to receive, complete, and document assigned tasks according to department standards.
o Identify, diagnose and resolve level-one technology issues.
o Escalate complex or advanced-level problems to the Technology Specialist II or appropriate next level support.
Collaboration, Teamwork, and Liaison Support
o Receive technical mentoring and guidance from the Technology Specialist II to implement districtwide technology solutions.
o Provide campus-level insights, technical data, and user feedback to the Technology Support Specialist II to support compilation of district-wide requirements.
o Communicate technical issues and resolutions proactively with both campus and district-level staff to foster a collaborative and productive culture.
o Maintain positive and professional relationships and work collaboratively with all district departments to support learning and business solutions.
Documentation and Training
o Provide just-in-time for staff and students on the effective and appropriate use of software systems, as it supports the technical work being done.
o Follow and create and maintain documentation for the use and support of campus-level software and systems.
Policy, Reports and Law
o Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required by the department.
o Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of technology.
o Assist in the development of campus-level policies and procedures regarding technology use.
Professional Growth and Development
o Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
o Attend all training sessions and staff meetings necessary to perform duties successfully.
Budget and Inventory
o Assist with the selection of technology equipment and software by providing technical recommendations and campus needs.
o Assist with the regular maintenance of the inventory database for all hardware and software in the district.
o Participate in scheduled inventory audits for campus technology-related items.
Safety
o Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
o Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including climbing, carrying, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
o Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
o Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Other
o Respond to after-hours emergencies or weekend project as needed and assigned, sometimes with little advance notice.
o Maintain confidentiality of all information.
o Complete other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Education/Certification/Experience:
o High School diploma or GED. Industry standard certification or college degree preferred. Experience installing, repairing and maintain computers and peripherals. Experience supporting and troubleshooting campus broadcast systems preferred. Prior experience in an education environment is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
o Knowledge of computer workstation set-up and maintenance
o Knowledge of using and supporting Maker Space equipment, including 3D printers and robotics
o Knowledge of district-specific software applications, and proficiency in Windows OS, MacOS, Microsoft Office, Office 365, and Google Apps for Education
o Knowledge and understanding of data import/export procedures as it relates to information systems
o Ability to install and maintain network cables and hardware
o Ability to diagnose problems and perform level-one repairs
o Ability to reason through routine technical problems and manage work under pressure
o Strong and effective organizational, communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills

Standard office equipment including personal computers, peripherals, and printers; hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations
o Prolonged walking; occasional sitting/bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
o Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
o Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) may lift up to 50 pounds while lifting or moving equipment and unboxing and installing new items
o Work inside with frequent interruptions to meet established deadlines; regular exposure to noise
o Frequent districtwide travel in personal vehicle between campuses
o Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
