Job Description

Systems Control Operator (Staff Wage) The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia United States, Virginia, Charlottesville 1215 Lee Street (Show on map) May 11, 2026 The Department of Facilities Management is seeking multiple candidates for evening/night shift Systems Control Operator positions. These roles are responsible for remotely monitoring and managing critical systems across the University, including building fire alarms and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems. Systems Control Operators play a vital role in responding to emergency and non-emergency situations, ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of building automation, energy management, and fire and life safety systems. This position requires strong decision-making skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and the ability to work independently while keeping supervisors informed of any significant issues
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Systems Control Operators with Control Center daily operations.
  • Work independently but immediately escalate critical issues or system malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Receive and prioritize work requests and dispatch responders accordingly.
  • Ensure that all system issues are promptly addressed and resolved.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date reports, logs, and records of shift activities, ensuring all documentation is clear, legible, and complete..
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned by the supervisor.
This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Two years of experience in analyzing and troubleshooting technical systems.
Licensure:
None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
