Agentic Systems Engineer Sol - 3.4 San Mateo, CA Job Details Full-time 20 hours ago Qualifications IT governance Systems integration Workflow management (operations management method) AI tools proficiency System design Integration Architecture Design (Architecture design skills) Scalable systems Infrastructure architecture design Production systems Clean architecture Enterprise Integration Data access controls implementation Design engineering Systems engineering Developing and maintaining backend systems Monitoring system implementation Distributed computing Senior level Design patterns Full Job Description About Sol Sol is an agentic HR system built for how work is changing. We're replacing the traditional HRIS with an AI-native foundation. We are built for change, designed to scale, and reimagined with AI from the ground up, so HR leaders get a clear view of their workforce instead of a system everyone works around. Sol was founded by leaders who spent decades building the modern HR category, and is backed by Sutter Hill Ventures and NEA. Our first customers go live in early 2027 and we need you to make them wildly successful. The Role You'll build the platform that Sol's agents run on: the runtime, orchestration, and governance systems that let AI agents do real work inside an enterprise HR system — safely, observably, and within the boundaries each customer defines. Agents are central to how Sol works, and this role owns the infrastructure underneath them. What You'll Do Design and build the agent runtime and orchestration layer: multi-step workflows, state management, recovery, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints Build the integration layer that gives agents structured, governed access to platform capabilities, using modern agent interoperability standards Design the permission and policy enforcement that keeps agents operating within customer-defined boundaries on sensitive data Build the observability that makes agent behavior traceable end to end Set the engineering patterns this part of the platform scales on, as one of its first dedicated owners What We're Looking For You've built distributed systems or platform infrastructure in production — orchestration, workflow engines, runtime systems — and understand how they fail You've worked with modern agent frameworks or are deeply fluent in the patterns they implement, and can reason about when framework abstractions help versus hide problems You think in terms of contracts, permissions, and blast radius: what an agent is allowed to do matters as much as what it can do You see governance and auditability as part of the design problem, and you'd rather build platform infrastructure than consume it You use AI tools heavily in your own development workflow You want broad ownership at an early-stage company and care about clean architecture from day one Why Now Agent infrastructure is where the interesting systems problems live right now, and most companies are bolting it onto architectures that weren't built for it. Sol is building it in from the foundation — which means the runtime you design becomes the way an entire enterprise platform does work. That's a rare scope of ownership for an infrastructure engineer at any stage. Sol is an equal opportunity employer. We don't discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. We're committed to building an inclusive workplace and providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities.
