Greenfield, Indiana or Rexburg, Idaho About Civan Lasers Civan Lasers develops high-power Dynamic Beam Lasers for advanced welding applications. As the company expands, this role will help ensure success in implementing laser systems for our customers. Position Overview We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support the integration, optimization, and successful deployment of our high-power laser systems, primarily for welding, but also other applications. This role focuses on ensuring overall performance of the laser system and its interfaces. The Systems Engineer will work across internal engineering teams, application labs, integrators, and with customers to ensure all system inputs, outputs, and supporting components work together effectively and deliver reliable performance in real-world applications. Key Responsibilities Evaluate overall laser system performance and ensure all subsystems, interfaces, and supporting components function together in the most effective manner. Optimize system-level inputs and outputs to help achieve peak performance, reliability, and consistency for customer applications. Collaborate with internal engineering teams and integrators to develop a complete understanding of system architecture, interfaces, operating conditions, and performance limits. Work with customers to understand application requirements in depth and ensure the integrated solution is technically sound and aligned with the customer's process goals. Travel to customer locations during new installations to help ensure the system is installed correctly, performs as intended, and to provide general assistance on-site for installation and startup. Serve as a technical bridge between customers, integrators, application engineering, service, and engineering teams. Provide hands-on support in application lab environments when not engaged in system engineering activities, including laser operation and process support. Clearly document customer's needs, findings, recommendations, and system-level issues to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. Assist in developing systems and technical service standards Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, integrators, and internal stakeholders across technical and non-technical settings. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience may also be considered. Minimum 3 to 5 years of applicable experience (see points below for examples of "applicable experience") Experience in systems engineering, automated systems integration, applications engineering, field engineering, or similar technical role. Experience designing, procuring, and/or developing complex industrial automated systems Strong ability to understand how mechanical, electrical, optical, controls, and process elements interact within a complex technical system. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with customers and collaborate across multicultural and international teams. Comfort working hands-on with equipment in lab, manufacturing, and customer-site environments. Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites, including for new system installations and startup support. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience with industrial laser systems. Experience supporting customer integrations, equipment installation, commissioning, or field service activities. Familiarity with application development, process validation, or customer-specific solution development. Knowledge of industrial automation, motion systems, controls, or manufacturing processes. Familiarity with the general welding industry and welding automation
