Job Description

Sr. Systems Engineer Role SummaryThe Senior Systems Engineer at Rand Worldwide is responsible for managing and optimizing the company's IT infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers and networking components. The role involves leading IT projects, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and automating routine functions to improve system performance.

This individual will work cross-functionally to support strategic initiatives, provide advanced IT support, and manage vendor relationships while adhering to change management processes.

Major Responsibilities/ActivitiesManage and maintain physical and virtual server environmentsAdminister and troubleshoot Windows operating systemsManage backup, security, and system management tools (e.g., SysAid, CrowdStrike)Optimize and test network and server performance, identify potential problems, and implement solutions accordinglyDevelop and configure custom scripts to automate routine functions and increase system performanceIdentify and translate business requirements into new opportunities for efficiencyProvide high Level II and Level III support for the IT HelpdeskLead new infrastructure projects and associated vendor relationships (e.g., company communications, stakeholder management, training/education, etc.)Create and follow all Change Management procedures and policiesCreate and maintain lists/spreadsheets/databases of software application license expirations, SSL certificates, and domain renewals.

Education RequirementsBS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experienceExperience/Skill Requirements10-15 year experience in the IT industryExperience with IaaS (preferably w/Microsoft Azure)Cybersecurity experienceExperience with virtualization technology (preferably w/Hyper-V and/or VMWare)Technical aptitude to evaluate, design, and implement new technologies into the IT infrastructureSolid fundamental networking experience (OSI layers, TCP/IP, etc.)Basic scripting and PowerShell experience a plusTravelThis position requires up to 5-10% travel. Frequently travel is outside the local area and overnight.
