Job Description

The North Carolina Conference is seeking a Director of Technology and Systems Development to lead and coordinate all technology and data systems across the Conference. This role oversees an outsourced IT services provider while directly developing and managing key systems, including a SQL-based data platform and a WordPress Multisite web environment. The Director ensures effective integration of systems such as ShelbyNext and Google Workspace, supports staff and ministry leaders in their use of technology, and helps shape a forward-looking digital strategy to advance the mission of the Conference. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, experience with vendor oversight, and the ability to translate technology into practical solutions for a mission-driven organization. This is a full-time, exempt position with a regular in-office presence required (minimum three days per week). PDF GENERAL
The Director of Technology and Systems Development reports to the Conference Treasurer and provides leadership for the coordination, development, and oversight of all Conference technology and information systems. This role serves as the primary liaison with the Conference's outsourced IT service provider and ensures that all systems are secure, integrated, and aligned with the mission and operational needs of the Conference. This position combines strategic oversight with hands-on development responsibilities, including management of an SQL-based data collection system and development of the Conference's WordPress Multisite web environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES I.
Technology and Systems Leadership Serve as the primary coordinator of all Conference technology and information systems Develop and implement a strategic vision for technology that supports Conference ministries and operations Ensure integration and effective use of core systems, including ShelbyNext, Google Workspace, Mailchimp, and internal databases Evaluate and recommend new technologies to improve efficiency, communication, and data use II. Vendor and Network Oversight Oversee the relationship with the outsourced network administration provider Monitor service delivery, system performance, cybersecurity practices, and issue resolution Serve as primary liaison for network infrastructure, backups, and disaster recovery planning Coordinate system upgrades and improvements with the service provider III. Database Administration and Development (SQL) Design, develop, and maintain SQL-based data systems for Conference-wide data collection and reporting Create and maintain tables, queries, forms, and reports across multiple data sources and API connections Develop and maintain web-based forms and tools for data submission Ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility for decision-making IV. Website Development and Administration Maintain the web server for the Conference's WordPress Multisite environment Manage custom themes, plugins, and write and manage code to support website functionality and customization Support existing websites and create new sites as needed Ensure websites are secure, accessible, and aligned with Conference branding and communication goals V. Systems Support and Integration Serve as point of contact for support related to core systems, including ShelbyNext and other data platforms Support and optimize Google Workspace for staff communication and collaboration Design and support reporting tools for Conference staff, committees, and local churches Ensure effective integration between systems and data sources Maintain API connection with Mailchimp to allow syncing between data systems VI. Training and Support Provide training to Conference staff, district leadership, and local churches on technology systems and tools Develop user-friendly resources and documentation for systems and processes Respond to inquiries and provide technical guidance across the Conference VII. Committee and Organizational Support Support Conference staff, committees, and local churches with data, reporting, and technology needs Design custom queries and reports to support ministry and administrative decision-making Collaborate across departments to improve systems and workflows VIII. Administration of Information Systems Develop and manage the Technology and Systems Development budget in coordination with the Treasurer Review and approve technology-related expenditures Coordinate with vendors for software, services, and technical consulting Maintain documentation of systems, processes, and vendor relationships Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field Demonstrated experience with SQL/database development Experience working with or managing third-party IT service providers Experience with WordPress development (Multisite preferred) Strong understanding of cloud-based platforms, including Google Workspace and Mailchimp Ability to manage multiple systems and priorities in a collaborative environment Preferred Experience with ShelbyNext or similar accounting systems Experience with Ubuntu Linux and Apache web hosting platforms Experience in a nonprofit, conference, or connectional organization Knowledge of cybersecurity and data governance best practices Experience integrating multiple enterprise systems
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Full-time exempt position Regular in-office presence required (minimum three days per week) Occasional travel within the Conference is required Availability to respond to critical system or network issues outside of normal business hours, if needed
