Job Description

Job Description A client in the Atlanta area is seeking a Cloud Systems Engineer (Azure/Microsoft 365) to join a small, senior-level infrastructure team supporting Azure and Microsoft 365 environments. This role will work directly alongside two senior engineers and is expected to operate at a higher level of ownership, contributing to daily operations and cloud initiatives. The System Engineer Level 3 (Windows & Azure) is a senior-level technical role responsible for leading advanced system engineering, cloud operations, and infrastructure modernization across corporate, retail, and cloud environments. This position owns the resolution of high-impact and complex incidents, provides technical leadership for Windows, Microsoft 365, and Azure platforms, and ensures systems are secure, scalable, and operationally mature. The role drives improvements in identity and access management, endpoint management, patching, automation, monitoring, and disaster recovery while operating within established standards and change control processes. This role also supports FinOps accountability by guiding resource governance, optimizing cloud consumption, and improving cost visibility through tagging discipline, usage reviews, and proactive cost optimization actions. Key Responsibilities Azure Infrastructure & Engineering
  •  Administer and manage resources within the Azure Portal
  •  Build and configure Azure resources, including: o Virtual Machines (VMs) o Virtual Networks (VNets) and VNet peering o Application Gateway configurations
  •  Support multi-tenant environments, including tenant-to-tenant connectivity
  •  Participate in overall Azure environment design, optimization, and scalability efforts
  •  Leverage PowerShell scripting for automation, provisioning, and management (CLI-based operations)
  •  Lead Tier 3 troubleshooting and resolution for complex Windows, Microsoft 365, and Azure incidents impacting business-critical services.
  •  Serve as the senior technical escalation point for Windows Server systems, enterprise authentication, and access-related issues across corporate and retail environments.
  •  Engineer, maintain, and improve core infrastructure services including Active Directory, Group Policy, identity integration, and endpoint management platforms.
  •  Lead Microsoft 365 administration and service health response activities, including advanced troubleshooting and coordination with vendors when required.
  •  Design and implement Azure solutions supporting compute, monitoring, backup, recovery, and operational stability using approved standards and best practices.
  •  Own and improve patching strategy and compliance outcomes for Windows endpoints and servers, including remediation workflows and reporting.
  •  Develop and maintain automation using PowerShell and platform tooling to reduce manual work, improve consistency, and increase reliability of operational processes.
  •  Lead endpoint management improvements including Autopilot/Intune strategy, device compliance, policy enforcement, and lifecycle governance.
  •  Establish and improve monitoring and alerting standards to support proactive detection, faster response, and reduced downtime across systems and cloud services.
  •  Support disaster recovery planning and execution, including backup validation, recovery testing, and documentation of restoration procedures.
  •  Lead change planning and execution for infrastructure improvements, ensuring risk assessment, change validation, rollback planning, and accurate documentation.
  • Microsoft 365 / Entra ID Administration
  •  Manage user lifecycle within Microsoft 365: o Account provisioning and deprovisioning o License assignment and upgrades o Mailbox administration
  •  Support Entra ID (Azure AD) for identity and access management
  •  Configure and maintain: o Conditional Access policies o Authentication/security settings
  •  Troubleshoot issues across M365 services (Exchange, identity, access controls) Cost Optimization & FinOps
  •  Monitor Azure spend using Cost Management tools
  •  Analyze cloud usage and provide cost optimization recommendations
  •  Utilize Microsoft's advisory tools to identify: o Underutilized or idle resources (e.g., unused VMs) o Opportunities to improve cost efficiency
  •  Support FinOps accountability by enforcing Azure governance standards, improving tagging compliance, validating resource ownership, and supporting cost allocation reporting.
  •  Identify and drive cost optimization initiatives such as rightsizing, lifecycle management, cleanup of unused resources, and reduction of unnecessary consumption. Operational Support & Collaboration
  •  Work closely with a team of senior engineers in a highly collaborative environment
  •  Support Azure-based workloads and ongoing cloud initiatives
  •  Participate in a monthly on-call rotation (hours adjusted within a standard 40-hour work week)
  •  Mentor Level 1 and Level 2 engineers through technical coaching, escalation support, and knowledge transfer to improve team capability and consistency.
  •  Participate in on-call rotation and provide leadership during major incidents, including coordination, communication, and root cause documentation.

  •  Strong experience with: o Azure Portal and cloud infrastructure management (5+ years experience - expert level) o Windows Server administration within Azure o Microsoft 365 administration (mailboxes, licensing, identity)
  •  Hands-on experience with: o PowerShell scripting (automation, provisioning, CLI usage) o Azure networking (VNets, peering, connectivity concepts)
  •  Experience working with Entra ID (Azure AD) for identity and access management
  •  Familiarity with managing and supporting Azure-hosted workloads
  •  Expert-level knowledge of Windows OS and Windows Server administration in an enterprise environment.
  •  Strong experience administering Active Directory, Group Policy, and enterprise identity services, including troubleshooting complex authentication and access issues.
  •  Strong Microsoft 365 administration and troubleshooting experience across core services and integrations.
  •  Strong Azure engineering experience including compute operations, monitoring, backup/recovery, security fundamentals, and operational governance.
  •  Proven ability to lead technical design decisions, develop standards, and deliver improvements that increase reliability and supportability.
  •  Strong PowerShell scripting and automation capabilities with a focus on operational efficiency and consistency.
  •  Strong understanding of patching strategy, compliance reporting, and remediation workflows for endpoints and servers.
  •  Strong understanding of monitoring and alerting concepts, including proactive detection and performance troubleshooting.
  •  Strong understanding of FinOps concepts including governance, tagging compliance, cost allocation support, and driving cloud optimization initiatives.
  •  Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical issues into clear updates for leadership and stakeholders.
  •  Ability to lead incident response efforts, coordinate across teams, and drive resolution under pressure.
  •  Ability to travel to retail locations as needed (optional/occasional based on business needs).
  •  Participate in after-hours/on-call support as scheduled.
  •  Associate or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  •  5+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure administration, or related IT engineering roles.
  •  Strong hands-on experience supporting Windows Server environments, enterprise identity, and Microsoft 365 services.
  •  Strong experience supporting Azure workloads in production, including monitoring, backup/recovery, and operational governance.
  •  Experience leading infrastructure modernization initiatives, platform standardization, and operational improvements preferred.
  •  Experience driving automation initiatives using PowerShell preferred.
  •  Experience supporting FinOps governance practices including tagging standards, cost optimization, and usage reviews preferred.

Compensation:
$42/hr to $48/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Employees in this role will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package starting on day one of employment, including options for medical, dental, and vision insurance. Eligibility to enroll in the 401(k) retirement plan begins after 90 days of employment. Additionally, employees in this role will have access to paid sick leave and other paid time off benefits as required under the applicable law of the worksite location.
