  • Developer Experience & Internal Platforms Position Overview Our large retail client is seeking a UX/UI Designer to help with an important project.
The project is tied to modernizing the client's infrastructure, so it actively enables and accelerates engineering teams rather than slowing them down. Their priority is improving internal technologists' and developers' experience, particularly across developer portals, ServiceNow, and observability tooling, where usability and clarity directly impact productivity. They're looking for embedded, hands-on talent that can work closely with engineers to reduce friction and improve adoption of internal platforms. We are seeking a skilled UI/UX Designer to focus on internal-facing user experiences that support engineers, platform teams, and internal technologists. This role focuses on improving the developer experience (DX) through intuitive, efficient, and scalable UI/UX across internal platforms, including developer portals, ServiceNow, and observability dashboards. The ideal candidate brings a strong balance of user research, UX strategy, and hands-on UI design, with experience designing for technical users in complex enterprise environments. This is a remote opportunity for 6-months, but candidates must work CST working hours. Key Responsibilities Design and enhance developer-facing experiences for internal platforms, including: Internal Developer Portals (e.g., Backstage) ServiceNow interfaces and workflows Observability and monitoring dashboards Partner closely with engineers, platform teams, and infrastructure stakeholders to understand workflows, pain points, and user journeys Conduct UX research (interviews, journey mapping, usability testing) focused on internal technologists and engineering personas Translate complex technical requirements into clear, intuitive UI/UX solutions Create wireframes, prototypes, design systems, and final UI assets Ensure consistency, accessibility, and usability across internal tools and platforms Collaborate with product, platform engineering, and DevOps teams to validate designs and support implementation Iterate designs based on feedback, analytics, and evolving platform needs What Success Looks Like Improved usability and adoption of internal developer platforms Reduced friction in developer workflows Clear, consistent UX patterns across ServiceNow, portals, and dashboards Strong partnership and trust with engineering and platform teams Qualifications 5+ years of experience in UI/UX design, preferably in enterprise or internal product environments Demonstrated experience designing for technical audiences (developers, engineers, IT teams) Strong portfolio showcasing UX problem-solving, user journeys, and platform or system design Experience with: Internal developer tools or platforms Dashboard design and data visualization Enterprise applications (e.g., ITSM tools, portals, platforms) Proficiency with UX/UI tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with highly technical stakeholders Preferred / Nice to Have Experience with Backstage, ServiceNow UI/UX, or similar internal platforms Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., monitoring, logging, metrics dashboards) Understanding of DevOps, cloud platforms, or platform engineering concepts Experience designing design systems for internal products Exposure to AI-enabled workflows or productivity tooling In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data.
