Job Title:
Data Operations Engineer - MUST be a citizen to be considered/eligble for this role. Job Description We are seeking an Expert Data Operations Engineer to oversee, optimize, and scale our AWS-based data platforms. The successful candidate will collaborate with developers and architects to productionize data flows, enhance performance, enforce governance, and deliver reliable, observable pipelines that support analytics and AI. Responsibilities Optimize Amazon Redshift performance, including distribution keys, sort keys, and query tuning, and support Athena optimization. Build and operate ETL/ELT pipelines utilizing AWS Glue and orchestrate workflows with Airflow. Manage semantic layers and metadata to facilitate trustworthy analytics and AI. Apply best practices for partitioning, compression, and columnar storage. Monitor and troubleshoot data workflows to ensure high availability and reliability; automate observability and reporting. Automate data processes using Python and AWS-native tools. Enforce data security and governance using Lake Formation and IAM, including row/column-level controls and least-privilege access. Support monitoring, auditing, and compliance through CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and related services. Continuously enhance architecture by adopting relevant AWS best practices and emerging patterns. Collaborate with Operations, Data Governance, and PMO to meet standards and delivery goals. Essential Skills Proficient in AWS, including S3, KMS, Lambda, Glue/Spark, SQS, EventBridge, and Step Functions. Strong understanding of AWS networking fundamentals: VPC, subnets, routing, NAT gateways, and security groups. Expertise in Redshift concurrency scaling and Athena tuning. Proficient in IAM, including roles, policies, assume-role, and cross-account access. Advanced SQL skills with distributed engines such as Redshift and Athena. Experience in writing and maintaining Terraform. Solid understanding of Spark architecture, execution plans, and performance tuning. Familiarity with serverless and event-driven pipelines. Experience with NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB and MongoDB. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience in data management, integration, or data warehousing. Strong communication skills, ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment, and a collaborative, data-driven mindset.
