Job Title:
Kubernetes Test Engineer Job Description The Kubernetes Test Engineer will support a large-scale Navy Submarine platform-as-a-service (PaaS) environment by testing and validating Kubernetes-based systems. The role focuses on ensuring platform stability, service availability, and reliable network communication across containerized environments. This is a hands-on software testing position, not a software development role, and is ideal for a tester with strong experience in Linux, Kubernetes, and system-level validation. Responsibilities Perform functional and system-level testing of Kubernetes-based platforms in a large-scale, multi-client environment. Execute manual test cases and develop detailed test scenarios based on system and platform requirements. Validate service availability by confirming whether services are up or down within Kubernetes clusters. Verify network connectivity and communication paths between services and components in containerized environments. Monitor and assess containerized application health within Kubernetes clusters. Use Linux command-line tools to troubleshoot and debug issues in Kubernetes environments. Analyze test results to identify defects, anomalies, and system behavior patterns. Document test results, defects, and observations clearly and accurately in test management tools. Create, maintain, and execute test cases and test scenarios to support ongoing platform validation. Support testing efforts across a large-scale platform serving multiple clients and stakeholders. Collaborate closely with platform engineering teams and Kubernetes leads to reproduce issues and validate fixes. Contribute to continuous improvement of test coverage, test processes, and validation strategies for the PaaS environment. Essential Skills Demonstrated experience with software or system testing, with a strong focus on manual testing. Working knowledge of Kubernetes (K8s) with a basic operational understanding of clusters and workloads. Hands-on experience with containers, using Docker or similar container technologies. Practical experience working in Linux environments, including proficiency with the Linux command line. Ability to debug and troubleshoot system issues in a Kubernetes-based environment. Experience creating and executing structured test cases and test scenarios. Familiarity with TestRail or similar test management tools for organizing and tracking test activities. Strong attention to detail when executing tests and documenting results. Analytical problem-solving skills to identify root causes and propose test-focused solutions. Ability to work effectively with engineering teams in a collaborative, technical environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience testing platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solutions or other distributed systems. Exposure to network validation and testing, including connectivity checks and verification of service paths. Experience working in Department of Defense (DoD) or Navy environments. Understanding of container orchestration at scale, including concepts related to large Kubernetes deployments. Light scripting experience to assist with test setup, validation, or basic automation (no heavy coding required). Exposure to larger-scale Kubernetes deployments that support multiple clients or tenants. Work Environment This position is 100% on site at a secure laboratory facility in Manassas, Virginia.
