Job Description:
We are seeking a Systems Engineer III to design, develop, deploy, and support complex industrial controls and robotics workcell systems. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with PLC-based control systems, industrial networks, and integrated automation environments. This role focuses on improving system throughput, reliability, and deployment efficiency across large-scale operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and deploy controls systems for complex robotics and automation workcells. Develop and maintain PLC and HMI applications, integrating components such as servo drives, barcode readers, remote sensors, and safety systems. Commission systems using best practices and provide advanced troubleshooting for integrated automation environments. Own system improvements to increase throughput, availability, quality, and deployment speed. Develop and maintain technical documentation for internal teams and partner commissioning/support teams. Define, collect, and analyze performance metrics to evaluate machine and system efficiency. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate controls systems with host and enterprise systems. Must-Have Skills:
Deep experience developing industrial controls systems, including PLC and HMI development and integration of drives, sensors, and automation components. Proficiency in multiple
IEC 61131-3
languages (e.g., Structured Text, Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram). Strong understanding of industrial networking and troubleshooting, including EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, PROFIBUS, and
PROFINET.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Programming experience in C, C++, or Java. Familiarity with AWS technologies and cloud-connected systems. Experience deploying or managing machines across large-scale, geographically distributed environments. Background of a
Successful Candidate:
A successful engineer in this role will: Have a strong understanding of robotics workcells, including servo drives, industrial networks, safety systems, and host system integration. Possess hands-on experience developing, commissioning, and troubleshooting complex integrated automation systems. Be comfortable owning system design, deployment, and performance optimization end-to-end. Demonstrate strong documentation practices and cross-team collaboration skills. Have experience with controls-focused software development rather than pure application software development. Leadership Principles (Most Important):

Candidates with primarily software application development backgrounds. Less than 25% hands-on controls/PLC experience, as these profiles typically struggle with controls-focused coding and system integration.
