at Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls, Idaho, United States Job Description Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Senior Manager, Protection Strategies for the Futures division of our Safeguards & Security directorate. This position would support a team that works site-wide. This Manager is responsible for leading critical areas that ensure the protection of assets at Idaho National Laboratory (INL). This role provides strategic direction, oversees daily operations, ensures protection of assets, and guides teams across multiple INL facilities. This position will work on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off or a 4x10 schedule with every Friday off depending on the determined work site location. The Senior Manager, Protection Strategies provides leadership and oversight for site-specific threat information, risk-informed physical protection planning, vulnerability assessments, security risk assessments, and protection strategy development for INL security areas, assets, and facilities. This position ensures protection strategies are aligned with site-specific threat information, INL mission priorities, operational needs, and a performance-based approach to safeguards and security. The manager leads personnel and programs responsible for gathering and analyzing site-specific threat information, assessing security needs, identifying vulnerabilities, evaluating security risks, and recommending protective strategies that support mission execution and effective security performance. The position is responsible for developing and maintaining protection strategies across the INL complex; coordinating site-specific threat information activities; supporting vulnerability and risk assessment activities; identifying improvement opportunities; and ensuring security decisions are based on credible threat information, risk significance, mission impact, operational feasibility, and measurable security outcomes. This role requires close coordination with facility management, operations, lab-wide leadership, DOE-ID, other DOE contractors, local and federal law enforcement partners, and other threat, intelligence, and security agencies to ensure protection approaches are practical, defensible, current, and effectively integrated into facility and mission planning. The manager is expected to communicate complex security risks clearly, build effective partnerships across internal and external organizations, and balance mission needs, security effectiveness, risk reduction, resource considerations, and operational impact. The successful candidate will provide strong, people-focused leadership to a team of security professionals by modeling INL values, setting clear direction, communicating expectations, providing timely feedback, and fostering accountability, collaboration, discretion, technical rigor, and continuous improvement. This leader will be responsible for developing staff capability, coaching and mentoring employees, supporting professional growth, building bench strength, leading through change, addressing performance concerns constructively, and creating an environment where employees understand priorities and how their work contributes to INL's mission. This role requires a leader who can build trust, communicate candidly, lead through change, address performance concerns constructively, and balance mission needs, security effectiveness, risk reduction, resource considerations, and operational impact. This role requires a forward-thinking leader who can challenge legacy approaches, anticipate emerging security needs, and drive innovation in protection strategy, vulnerability assessment, threat-informed planning, and risk-informed decision-making. The manager will be expected to evaluate new methods, technologies, partnerships, and practices that support cutting-edge security performance and position INL to address evolving threats and mission demands.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant experience with 9 years of proven leadership experience.
Relevant experience includes:
physical protection planning; site-specific threat information; threat-informed decision-making; facility operations; physical security systems; SNM protection; classified matter protection; vulnerability assessments; security risk assessments/analysis; and performance-based safeguards and security approaches. DOE Q clearance required (or the ability to obtain and maintain) which requires US Citizenship.
Job Information:
