Job Description

This is supervisory-level systems administration work involving responsibility for the development, enhancement, maintenance, security, and operational support of multi-platform hardware and software operating systems at a high level of complexity, risk, or impact. The incumbent manages systems administration activities, provides direction to technical staff, coordinates infrastructure operations, supports enterprise systems, manages vendor relationships, ensures documentation and security standards are followed, and works with stakeholders and high-level business users to support reliable and compliant information technology operations. Examples of work include supervising and leading systems administration staff; overseeing server, virtualization, cloud, identity, backup, and enterprise application environments; administering or supporting Active Directory (AD), Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), backup systems, and related services; enforcing configuration, patching, monitoring, documentation, and security standards; coordinating with the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) regarding network, hosting, security, and incident response activities; supporting vulnerability remediation, log management, system hardening, and privileged access controls; planning and executing upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle refreshes; providing escalation support for complex system issues; coordinating with vendors and partners; communicating with the agency's Office of Technology Services and Innovation (OTSI), Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), as applicable; setting expectations and verifying results; supporting staff training and development; preparing reports and documentation; and performing related duties as assigned. Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years of information technology experience with emphasis in multi-platform hardware and software systems and systems administration. Essential functions include supervising systems administration staff; directing daily systems administration operations; supporting server, virtualization, cloud, identity, backup, enterprise application, and related technology environments; maintaining and enforcing configuration, patching, monitoring, documentation, security, and compliance standards; coordinating with agency leadership, internal technology teams, vendors, and the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services (ITS); supporting cybersecurity practices, vulnerability remediation, access controls, log management, and system hardening; planning and supporting upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle refreshes; ensuring continuity, reliability, and recoverability of assigned systems; providing escalation support for complex technical issues; maintaining accurate documentation; developing staff technically and operationally; and performing related supervisory and systems administration duties as assigned.
