Job Title:
Cybersecurity Engineer The Cybersecurity Engineer will lead information security and regulatory compliance efforts in a highly regulated environment where security incidents can have significant financial impact. This role combines technical cybersecurity expertise with deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks, including audit preparation and support for organizations operating in complex interconnection and energy-related ecosystems. The engineer will help design, implement, and maintain robust security and compliance programs that reduce risk, support self-reporting where appropriate, and ensure successful recurring audits. Responsibilities Lead and maintain the organization's information security and regulatory compliance programs in a highly regulated industry. Analyze and interpret applicable cybersecurity and regulatory requirements, and translate them into clear technical and administrative controls. Plan, prepare for, and support recurring audits, including those conducted on a three-year cycle, ensuring all documentation and evidence are complete and accurate. Conduct and support security and compliance audits for interconnected entities, including organizations operating within complex interconnection environments such as energy or grid-related ecosystems. Develop, document, and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures that align with regulatory expectations and industry best practices. Collaborate with technical and administrative teams to implement and monitor security controls that mitigate risk and minimize the financial impact of potential violations. Identify, assess, and report on cybersecurity risks, including potential violations, and support processes for self-reporting when appropriate. Provide guidance and training to stakeholders on information security and compliance requirements to promote a strong security culture. Monitor evolving regulatory and cybersecurity landscapes and recommend updates to the security and compliance program as requirements change. Investigate security incidents from a compliance perspective and contribute to remediation plans that address root causes and prevent recurrence. Essential Skills Proven experience in cybersecurity with a strong focus on information security and compliance. Demonstrated expertise in regulatory compliance as it relates to cybersecurity in highly regulated industries. Experience supporting or leading security and compliance audits on a recurring basis, including multi-year audit cycles. Ability to design and implement both technical and administrative security controls that meet regulatory requirements. Strong analytical skills to assess risk, interpret regulations, and map them to practical security measures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document policies, prepare audit materials, and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders. PhD in Computer Science, Regulatory Compliance & Cybersecurity, or a closely related discipline. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience auditing or supporting organizations in complex interconnection environments, such as energy or grid-related ecosystems. Background in working with entities subject to significant financial penalties for security incidents or regulatory violations. Familiarity with best practices for self-reporting security and compliance issues to regulators or oversight bodies. Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating security and compliance risks. Work Environment This role operates in a 100% remote work environment, offering the flexibility to perform all responsibilities from a home or remote office. Collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders occurs through digital communication and collaboration tools. The position focuses on knowledge-based, analytical work in cybersecurity and compliance, with an emphasis on documentation, virtual meetings, and secure remote access to systems and data. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Hampden, ME. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $150.00 - $150.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
