Back Junior Cybersecurity Specialist @
CGI Position Description:
Launch your cybersecurity career as a Junior Cybersecurity Specialist supporting the protection and resilience of enterprise systems. In this role you will focus on learning, analysis, and supporting day to day security operations across a dynamic environment. Specialists will learn and apply modern security practices, gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools, and support security monitoring, vulnerability management, and compliance activities. This position is ideal for early-career professionals who are eager to grow, contribute to real-world security operations, and develop foundational skills under the mentorship of experienced cybersecurity practitioners. This position is located in our Lafayette, Louisiana or Knoxville,TN office; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable. Due to the nature of government contracts, US citizenship is required.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
Assist in monitoring, analyzing, and triaging security events, alerts, and incidents. Support vulnerability scanning, patch tracking, and remediation validation using tools such as Qualys, SonarQube, or similar. Help maintain and enforce security policies, procedures, and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, FISMA, Section 508). Participate in internal audits, risk assessments, and incident response exercises. Collaborate with IT, development, and operations teams to promote secure practices within DevSecOps and CI/CD workflows. Support identity and access management activities, including user provisioning and access reviews. Assist in documenting incidents, compliance findings, security recommendations, and reporting for leadership. Stay current with emerging cybersecurity threats, attack techniques, and defensive best practices. Participate in continuous training, upskilling, and mentorship opportunities. Present technical concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences when needed.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications to be successful in this role: Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 0-5 years of experience in cybersecurity, information security, or IT security (internships, academic projects, or entry-level jobs qualify). Familiarity with security tools such as Qualys, SonarQube, Splunk, or comparable technologies. Foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat analysis, and incident response concepts. Awareness of security compliance frameworks and standards (NIST, FISMA, Section 508). Experience with version control (Git) or exposure to CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps) preferred. Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills. Eligibility to meet required security and residency requirements.
Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required:
Exposure to cloud security concepts (Azure, AWS). Familiarity with scripting or automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash). Experience or coursework related to DevSecOps, security engineering, or secure software development. Experience working with large-scale or regulated environments is a plus. Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, SSCP, or similar (or working toward them).
