YOUR ROLE AS A CYBERSECURITY ANALYST
As a Full-Time Cybersecurity Analyst with the City of Pharr, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the organization's security standards and availability. Your responsibilities will include monitoring and configuring security tools such as firewalls and SIEM systems, while frequently assessing Active Directory and network traffic for suspicious activity. You will be on-call to address critical incidents outside regular hours, ensuring swift investigation and resolution of any breaches. Proactive vulnerability scans and patch management will be key in reducing risks, alongside hardening operating systems and databases to achieve a low-risk profile. You will generate routine reports for management and compliance, document investigations, and recommend improvements based on system log reviews. Collaboration with external partners will be essential for successful upgrades and remote access configurations. Additionally, you will support cybersecurity awareness programs and continuously enhance organizational security posture against emerging threats through ongoing research and best practices.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IN A CYBERSECURITY ANALYST
To excel as a Full-Time Cybersecurity Analyst at the City of Pharr, candidates must possess a robust foundation in cybersecurity principles, frameworks, and compliance standards such as NIST, HIPAA, and PCI. Proficiency with security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, and encryption, is essential. A solid understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and database security (SQL), along with virtualization software and storage area networks, is required. Skills in monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting system logs, as well as incident response methodologies, are critical to resolving security incidents effectively. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting vulnerability assessments, applying patch management, and hardening systems. Strong documentation and reporting abilities, coupled with excellent customer service skills for providing technical support and cybersecurity training, are vital. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to think critically under pressure, articulate complex concepts to non-technical staff, and collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams, all while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. ). Security technologies including firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, antivirus/EDR/XDR, DNS protection, and encryption. Operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and database security (SQL). Virtualization software and Storage Area Networks. Network protocols, routing, VPNs, and remote access technologies. Vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, and patch management practices. Active Directory, email security, and identity/access management. Incident response methodologies and digital forensics fundamentals. IT policies, risk management, and regulatory requirements. Skills Monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting system logs and security alerts. Investigating, documenting, and resolving security incidents. Conducting vulnerability assessments, applying patches, and hardening systems. Writing reports, security documentation, and incident findings clearly and concisely. Researching and evaluating new threats, tools and mitigation strategies. Providing technical support and cybersecurity training with excellent customer service. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, consultants, and vendors on implementations and upgrades. Abilities Think critically and respond quickly under pressure during incidents. Identify security gaps and recommend practical and effective solutions. Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical staff. Stay current with evolving cyber threats, tools, and trends.
