Location:
Tampa, FL (Hybrid) Team is transitioning from older SQL/Sybase-style databases into Big Data Olympus proprietary platform. They are redesigning tables and moving data models into a new environment. The role is less of a pure Java/Spark developer and more focused on data modeling, data engineering, and database modernization. AI is heavily used by the team through tools like Devin AI, Copilot, Claude/models, and internal AI tools, but this is not an AI Engineer role. Manager emphasized that the strongest candidates will understand data, user needs, and cross-team collaboration, not just coding. Must-Haves Strong data modeling experience - logical, physical, conceptual modeling . Strong understanding of SQL vs NoSQL and when to use each. Experience with Big Data concepts/tools; Spark is helpful but not mandatory. Ability to work through database/data model migration or modernization efforts. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and collaboration across teams.
Tester mindset:
able to question gaps, compare models, identify inconsistencies, and validate data. Nice-to-Haves Python Spark experience. Sybase / legacy SQL database migration experience. Experience with proprietary or enterprise data platforms.
AI-assisted development exposure:
Copilot, Devin AI, Claude, internal AI tools, etc. Financial services experience is nice but not required.
