Are you passionate about building a technology-based product that will actually help people in need? Do you want to work in an environment that is dynamic, challenging and constantly evolving? As a member of the team you'll have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative, creative, and agile environment. We are Vant4ge. Our staff is passionate about using technology to help and give hope to people who may have become involved in local, state, or federal justice systems. We provide an online community of care that connects, coordinates and tracks all those who are involved in the correctional/rehabilitative life cycle, including those with the most stake (the justice involved youth or adult, him/herself). Our technology seeks to empower all involved to assess, assign and encourage completion of treatment plans that will improve success in the community. We enjoy knowing our software at the end of the day is being used to help people. Job Overview Vant4ge is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to strengthen the data foundation behind our reporting and analytics. Today, much of our BI depends on complex pipelines, custom logic, and source-system behavior that needs to be more reliable, better documented, and easier to support as the business grows. This role will focus on improving the reliability, visibility, and maintainability of the data pipelines that power our dashboards, internal reporting, and client-facing analytics. You will work closely with the Director of QA & Data, BI & Analytics Lead, BI Engineer, Engineering, and Product to make sure the data behind our reporting is accurate, timely, and ready for more meaningful KPI-driven dashboards. This is a foundational role for the Data & Analytics team. The immediate work is pipeline stability, refresh reliability, documentation, monitoring, and technical support for BI modernization. Over time, this role will also help evaluate whether our data is ready to support future initiatives such as AI-assisted reporting, RAG, and outcome tracking. Responsibilities Assess existing ETL and reporting pipelines for reliability, refresh cadence, failure points, and undocumented dependencies. Improve refresh reliability for BI dashboards, internal reporting, and client-facing reporting. Implement monitoring, alerting, and data freshness checks for priority reporting pipelines. Identify and remediate high-risk pipeline failure points that impact BI delivery. Support higher-frequency or near-real-time reporting readiness where technically appropriate. Document source systems, data transformations, dependencies, refresh schedules, known limitations, and reporting assumptions. Create and maintain operational documentation, including SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and runbooks for critical data pipelines. Reduce tribal knowledge risk by making pipeline behavior, custom logic, and client-specific dependencies visible and maintainable. Partner with the BI Engineer to document dashboard dependencies and report logic. Provide technical data support for BI Dashboard development. Ensure datasets supporting BI dashboards are reliable, documented, and fit for reporting use. Partner with the BI & Analytics Lead and BI Engineer on KPI definitions, calculated measures, data availability, and dashboard performance. Support the transition from aggregate product reporting to KPI-driven, outcome-oriented dashboards. Help identify source-data gaps that limit reporting, KPI calculation, or client-facing value stories. Improve data modeling, transformation patterns, deployment discipline, and environment consistency. Support version control, repeatable deployment practices, and technical documentation standards for data workflows. Partner with Engineering/CTO as needed on architecture standards, production constraints, ServiceBus/event-driven data needs, and technical implementation choices. Support data quality controls appropriate for reporting and analytics use cases. Support AI/RAG discovery by identifying available data sources, permissions, data gaps, lineage, and technical constraints. Support recidivism/incarceration timeline discovery by helping assess available event data, release/return indicators, CCR/event-change signals, incarceration episodes, and longitudinal tracking feasibility. Prepare reliable datasets that may support future Data Scientist workflows once the data foundation and business case are ready. Provide feasibility input, not production ownership, for AI/RAG or predictive analytics efforts. Follow and help improve Data & Analytics SOPs, intake processes, and escalation paths. Support cross-training and knowledge-sharing across Data & Analytics. Complete required corporate training on time. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform engineering, backend data systems, or a similar production data role. Strong SQL experience, including complex queries, performance tuning, relational modeling, and data validation. Experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting ETL/ELT pipelines. Experience with production data reliability practices, including monitoring, alerting, data freshness checks, and incident troubleshooting. Experience documenting source systems, transformations, dependencies, data assumptions, and operational runbooks. Working knowledge of Python, C#, or similar programming/scripting languages. Hands-on experience with SQL database design, normalization/denormalization tradeoffs, and reporting-oriented data models. Experience supporting BI/reporting tools such as Power BI or similar platforms. Ability to work cross-functionally with BI, Product, Engineering, QA, and business stakeholders. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical communication skills. Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Azure data services or cloud-based data platforms. Experience with event-driven data ingestion, ServiceBus, streaming, or near-real-time reporting patterns. Experience in government, justice, healthcare, or other regulated/sensitive-data environments. Familiarity with CJIS, security review, auditability, or controlled-access data environments. Experience supporting BI modernization, KPI reporting, or executive dashboards. Experience preparing datasets for future analytics, outcome analysis, or data science workflows. We highly value Passion for and responsibility to the customer/partner Must be self-starting, hardworking and inquisitive Leadership through innovation in everything you do Passion for what you do and being self-critical to improve Relentless commitment to win Personal and corporate integrity
