Job Description
WSI is scaling a modern, AI-enabled data platform on Microsoft Fabric to power decision-making across Operations, Finance, HR, Customer Service, and customer-facing solutions. We're seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own and evolve key components of this platform. This hands-on role is ideal for a fast-moving builder with strong coding discipline and data architecture instincts. You'll develop production-grade pipelines, curated data products, and semantic models that drive unified insights across our different lines of business. Success is measured by speed to value, data quality, platform reliability, and business adoption. This salary position will report to an IT Manager.
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Own and deliver impactful data products within WSI's medallion architecture Transform raw and conformed data into governed, high-quality datasets for analytics, AI, and operational use Design, build, and optimize data solutions on Microsoft Fabric, including pipelines, Lakehouse/Warehouse structures, PySpark notebooks, and semantic models Evolve and implement data architecture patterns (medallion, SCD, CDC, orchestration, CI/CD), adapting them to real-world scale, performance, and business needs Ensure data quality, observability, and performance at scale Implement validation frameworks, monitoring, SLAs, and cost-optimized storage and compute strategies Partner with stakeholders to translate requirements into reusable, scalable data models and curated data products Drive consolidation of legacy reporting and BI tools into a unified, governed analytics platform Embed security, governance, and best practices, including role-based access, cataloging, and release management Act as a technical leader, contributing to standards, mentoring peers, and elevating overall engineering quality Leverage modern dev tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot or similar) to accelerate delivery and engineering efficiencyREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
7+ years of data engineering experience, building and owning enterprise-scale data platforms and data products Proven experience with Microsoft Fabric or closely related Microsoft data technologies, including: Lakehouse/Warehouse architecture and OneLake Data pipelines and orchestration PySpark/Python-based data transformation Semantic modeling and Power BI integration Strong expertise in SQL dimensional modeling (star/snowflake), and incremental data patterns (SCD, CDC) Demonstrated experience implementing data quality, testing, and observability frameworks Strong familiarity with Git-based workflows and CI/CD practices for data and analytics platforms Experience supporting business reporting and analytics, building clean, usable semantic models and datasets Domain experience in logistics, supply chain, or related systems (e.g., 3PL, WMS, TMS, OMS) strongly preferred Lakehouse/Warehouse architecture and OneLake Data pipelines and orchestration PySpark/Python-based data transformation Semantic modeling and Power BI integrationPREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience working in complex, diverse data environments with multiple source systems and business domains Exposure to customer-facing data products or external data integrations Experience mentoring engineers or contributing to technical standards and best practices Familiarity with cost optimization strategies in cloud-based data platformsPHYSICAL CAPABILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Work remotely or out of our home office in Appleton, WI. Comfortable with working in a warehouse and interacting with site team members. Periodic travel (Up to 25%) will be needed to help train and further document processes at facilities. Ability to sit for extended periods within an office environment. Ability to use hands and fingers for computer keyboarding, and answer phone calls. Ability to communicate via the telephone using speaking and hearing skills.BENEFITS AND TOTAL REWARDS
