Job Description

The Data Quality Analyst is responsible to ensure the data loaded into the enterprise data warehouse is complete, reliable and accurate and will meet the informational requirements of the organization. The incumbent works closely with the Business and with development teams to understand the relationships between business process management, data acquisition and data use. The incumbent understands data quality concepts, designs and constructs effective data validation processes to identify data quality problems, and is able to suggest solutions to solve data quality problems. The incumbent mentors and coaches others on their role in data quality, and advocates the role and importance of data quality in the organization. Identify, assess, fix, document and communicate potential quality issues in the way data is collected, stored, processed or used. Review and validate data loaded into the data warehouse for accuracy, proactively identifying any data quality issues. Recommend, design, implement and monitor data quality standards and procedures for use in the data production process. Work with Business users to resolve data quality problems, using techniques such as root cause analysis. Explain assumptions and methodologies and simplify complex concepts for non-technical users. Exhibit and establish a culture of quality solution design and development. Recommend maintenance enhancements to data acquisition processes to improve accuracy of data warehouse data. Make recommendations to operational support for enhancements to systems of record to improve accuracy of operational data. Review referential integrity of data warehouse data. Review historical integrity of data warehouse data. Manage the data warehouse data dictionary and Metadata. Perform data profiling to determine if data can be used for other purposes. Develop and report on appropriate data quality metrics. Create and execute data validation plans, scripts, cases and scenarios that will ensure the veracity of the data in the data warehouse. Prepare estimates of time and resources required to perform data validation on development projects. Accurately report progress and status on assigned projects. Produce reports and documentation for data validation efforts, results, activities, logging and tracking. Maintain test defect logs and manage defects until resolved. Maintain awareness of current and developing trends in Data Quality Management including best practices, tools and techniques. Research and evaluate data quality tools and frameworks to justify recommendations and to support technology solution purchasing efforts. Establish the practices and standards used in the Data Quality practice. Ensure and maintain an enterprise view of Data Quality. Other duties as assigned. Completion of a recognized degree or diploma program in an IT related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience. A minimum of six years of experience in software development or quality assurance in heavy data environments. Demonstrated knowledge of data modeling, database design, OLTP, OLAP, and Big Data environments, structured and unstructured data processing, ETL processes and business intelligence tools and concepts. Advanced SQL skills required. Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong critical thinking, communication and interpersonal skills. Post-secondary education in business, commerce or a related discipline is an asset. Experience working in an agile development environment is an asset. Knowledge of TQM, QA practices, Six Sigma and process improvement as it relates to data quality are assets. Upgrading is required to keep up-to-date on new technology and changes in information technology. These competencies are deemed important for the success of the position and organization. Previous experience in the gaming, retail and/or distribution industries, ERP systems, financial or human resources functions are assets. Previous experience with Cognos BI tools and Teradata are assets. Bilingual French/English language skills are an asset. •Testing may form part of the screening/selection process.
