Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Data Analyst at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for data collection and analysis to support effective clinical and financial performance, especially reimbursement capture. This role requires strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills to complete admissions financial processing and financial counseling for patients, engage effectively with cross-departmental staff, and develop databases and reporting to support analysis of optimization opportunities for patient care and financial performance.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Admission/Financial Counseling:
Obtains and/or verifies insurance eligibility, benefits and prior authorizations.
Gathers required signatures on patient paperwork.
Verifies data/information for accuracy to secure reimbursement for office visits and procedures.
Schedules appointments/referrals and informs patient.
Provides financial counseling to patients.
Information Management:
Interprets data and analyzes results to meet information and financial needs of the Clinic.
Performs clinical abstraction from medical record, collects and input essential clinical data to support patient care.
Utilizes analytical tools to prepare reports for clinical and financial review (i.e. spreadsheets, graphs and budget performance).
Coordinates the development, testing, implementation, and education of IT systems related to Clinic processes (i.
e.
SCM, PFM, 3
M, Athena, Aria, etc.).
Reporting:
Develops databases for clinical and financial outcomes (as needed/requested).
Ensures report(s) are accurate and complete based on the requirements.
Communication:
Effectively communicates with patients, providers, and payers (as necessary).
Customer Service:
Works with clinical staff to coordinate and secure information necessary to admit, bill, and collect reimbursement monies.
Regulation:
Adheres to
NMHS/NMMC
Policies/Procedures/Guidelines.
Complies with applicable Local/State/Federal procedures, guidelines, regulations and laws.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent . Required
Associate's Degree in Business, Healthcare, Accounting or related field. Preferred Licenses and Certifications

1-3 years. Minimum of 1 year experience in business, accounting or clinic operations. Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of computer competencies in the following applications: Programming, Database, Word Processing, Presentation Software, Spreadsheets, and Graphics; required
Good written and verbal communication skills; required
Excellent organizational, analytical, and creative thinking skills; required
Knowledge of clinical terminology; required
Must exhibit a high level of initiative, accuracy, diplomacy, and self-direction
Must accurately and efficiently develop, maintain, and distribute records/reports
Must be able to prioritize workflow
Must be able to work independently
Must efficiently complete multiple tasks
Must have extensive contact with: patients, family members, financial managers, ancillary personnel, Management Information Services, and other NMHS staff members
Must have good written and verbal communication skills
