Master Data Analyst Job Description The Master Data Analyst owns the accuracy, structure, and governance of enterprise master data across the organization. This role ensures that critical master data is complete, consistent, standardized, and reliable across systems and functions. The analyst works cross-functionally to define data standards, manage changes, resolve data issues, and deliver high-confidence data that supports operational and business processes. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, self-direction, and a deep sense of accountability for data integrity. Responsibilities Own and steward assigned master data domains such as product, customer, supplier, material, or other core data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, consistency, and effective lifecycle management. Manage master data across multiple systems, sources, and formats, serving as the primary point of accountability for data quality, definition, and ongoing maintenance. Establish, document, and maintain master data definitions, business rules, attributes, hierarchies, and data standards to drive consistency across the organization. Create and maintain data governance artifacts, including data dictionaries, ownership models, approval workflows, and change controls. Review, validate, and approve master data changes, assessing downstream impacts to systems, reports, and business processes and communicating those impacts to stakeholders. Coordinate with IT and functional partners to ensure master data is correctly integrated, synchronized, and maintained across platforms and applications. Maintain clear documentation for data sources, data ownership, change history, and data refresh or update cycles. Deliver accurate, controlled master data outputs using advanced Microsoft tools and enterprise systems. Independently manage priorities and timelines while supporting a fast-paced, results-oriented organization. Identify and recommend opportunities to improve master data quality, standardization, controls, and governance processes to enhance organizational effectiveness. Develop and maintain best practices, templates, and guidelines related to master data creation, maintenance, and usage. Serve as a trusted partner to business teams by providing guidance on master data definitions, standards, and proper usage. Support and facilitate training related to master data processes, governance, and tools to increase data maturity across the organization. Collaborate effectively with globally dispersed and cross-functional teams to resolve data issues and support business needs. Essential Skills Strong sense of ownership and accountability for data accuracy and integrity. Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage complex data structures and dependencies. Systematic and analytical problem-solving skills focused on root-cause prevention of data issues. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data standards and issues to both technical and non-technical audiences. High-level Excel skills and accuracy, including experience with large-volume data management and analysis. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Power Query and Power Pivot. Advanced proficiency with Power BI, including data modeling capabilities. Proficiency with SharePoint and related data management capabilities.
