You will research, identify, and evaluate data sources to determine reliability or usability limitations, and collect, manipulate, analyze, and interpret data, and present results to supervision, covering conclusions and recommendations based on evaluations made. Minimum QualificationsTo be appointed to Data Analyst Trainee 1 (equated to SG-14), you must have:
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field To be appointed to Data Analyst Trainee 2 (equated to SG-16), you must have:
  • A bachelor's degree in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field AND one (1) year of experience in Data Visualization, and Statistical Models and Data Mining tools. OR
  • A master's degree or higher in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. To be appointed to Data Analyst 1 (SG-18), you must have:
  • A bachelor's degree in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field AND two (2) year of experience in Data Visualization, and Statistical Models and Data Mining tools. OR
  • A master's degree in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field AND one (1) year of experience in Data Visualization, and Statistical Models and Data Mining tools. OR
  • A Ph.
D. in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
Traineeship salary information:
The position may be filled at the Data Analyst Trainee 1 equated to SG-14 ($53,764), Data Analyst Trainee 2 equated to SG-16 ($59,994), or full performance Data Analyst 1 SG-18 ($66,951) based on the candidate's education, experience, and previous state service. Salary is nonnegotiable. Candidates hired at the trainee level will be advanced to the full performance Data Analyst 1 SG-18 following successful completion of the traineeship.   • Proficient at conducting data processing, data formatting, and data analysis.
  • Have computer programming experience (e.g., R, Python, Java, C++).
  • Strong critical thinking and professional judgement.
  • Strong analytical thinker with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
Telecommuting:
The Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency's mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OSC will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee's primary residence location, duties, and work performance are aligned with telecommuting and operational needs they may be allowed to do so. Generally, OSC employees may telecommute up to 5 days per pay period but may be approved to telecommute less.
