Job Description
Description Are you interested in changing science fiction into reality for our national security in space? Are you passionate about new applications for sensor optics and imaging chains? If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL! We are seeking a Senior Electro Optics Modeling & Simulation Analyst to support the development of advanced modeling and simulation tools for complex electro-optical (EO/IR) systems. This role focuses on building high-fidelity 6 Degrees-of-Freedom (6DOF) simulation environments and Monte Carlo analysis frameworks to evaluate system performance under uncertainty. The candidate will work closely with systems engineers, physicists, and algorithm developers to design scalable, high-performance simulation software supporting mission-critical applications. As a Senior Electro Optics Modeling & Simulation Analyst you will... Design and develop high-performance software in C++ for 6DOF dynamic modeling of EO systems Implement and optimize Monte Carlo simulation frameworks for probabilistic analysis Model physical phenomena including: Sensor optics and imaging chains Target signatures and backgrounds Integrate guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) models into simulation environments Develop reusable software architectures for large-scale simulation campaigns Perform performance optimization (multithreading, vectorization, GPU acceleration where applicable) Validate and verify models against analytical solutions and test data Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system requirements and model fidelity Qualifications You meet the minimum qualifications if you have... Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or related field 5+ years of experience in C++ software development (modern C++ preferred:
C++14/17/20
) Experience with 6DOF modeling and simulation Strong understanding of Monte Carlo methods and statistical analysis Experience with numerical methods and scientific computing Familiarity with Linux-based development environments Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI+poly clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You go above and beyond the minimum requirements if you have... Experience modeling electro-optical / infrared (EO/IR) systems Background in physics-based simulation (radiometry, optics, or GNC) Familiarity with tools such as: MATLAB / Python for prototyping CUDA / OpenCL for GPU acceleration Experience with real-time simulation frameworks or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems Knowledge of sensor fusion or tracking algorithms Prior work in aerospace, defense, or advanced R D environments About Us Why Work at APL?
