Location:
Hybrid - Cleveland Position Summary The Senior Data Scientist, Impact & Learning serves as the quantitative thought leader for one of Goldman Sachs' entrepreneurship programs, bringing deep analytical rigor, work experience and a graduate degree in advanced statistics, and strong storytelling skills to measure, analyze, interpret, and communicate program impact. This role goes beyond dashboards and reporting. It is responsible for designing and conducting advanced analyses that examine longitudinal outcomes, identifying what drives success, and translating complex findings into compelling narratives for funders, partners, and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate blends technical excellence with intellectual curiosity and communication strength—equally comfortable running statistical models, collaborating with program leaders, and gleaning and presenting impactful insights to executive leaders and philanthropic audiences. Key Responsibilities Impact Measurement & Applied Research Design and execute rigorous impact analyses for the Goldman Sachs entrepreneurship program, including longitudinal and cohort based studies Apply advanced statistical and econometric methods (e.g., causal inference, quasi experimental design, regression modeling) Develop learning questions in partnership with program leadership to assess program effectiveness and impact Ensure analytic approaches meet funder, academic, and philanthropic credibility standards Insight Translation & Storytelling Translate complex analyses into clear, compelling narratives to be presented in various formats Produce learning briefs, impact reports, and presentation materials for GSF and other stakeholders Support external communications by shaping evidence based stories about program outcomes Partner with Communications and Development teams to align data with narrative strategy Staff Management Directly manage the Data Analyst position, including coaching, performance feedback, and supporting professional development Lead day-to-day analysis workflows by applying an agreed-upon methodology (e.g., study design, definitions, analysis plans, and documentation) to ensure consistency, rigor, and reproducibility Develop and manage analysis workplans, timelines, and deliverables; set milestones, monitor progress, and communicate status and risks to internal stakeholders Review analytic outputs for quality (e.g., code review, validation checks, and interpretation) and ensure deliverables meet stakeholder needs and funder expectations Alignment with Data Practices & Funder Standards Align analytic definitions, documentation, and QA practices with JumpStart Data Team standards Deliver evaluation and learning outputs that meet Goldman Sachs' expectations for rigor and transparency Share data needs and refresh requirements through established governance channels Manage data systems in Salesforce and ensure they meet integrity standards for rigorous data analysis, including but not limited to, managing Jumpstart team in cleaning the data, making recommendations around system design, identifying and articulating system design needs, and building out and leading design of dashboards for Goldman Sachs' effective engagement with data Required Qualifications Master's degree in data science, statistics, quantitative / qualitative research, economics, or a closely related field, PhD preferred. Demonstrated experience conducting applied, real world impact research Advanced proficiency in Python, R, Stata and/or SPSS for statistical analysis Experience translating quantitative findings for non technical audiences Strong written and presentation skills Familiarity/comfort with Salesforce Knowledge of / demonstrated experience in designing Impact measurement frameworks and utilizing monitoring and evaluation tools, such as theories of change, etc. Preferred Qualifications Experience in philanthropy, workforce development, and entrepreneurship Demonstrated qualitative data collection, trend analysis, and research design Familiarity with nonprofit or mission driven environments Experience working with funders or external partners on evaluation or learning agendas Physical Demands/Working Conditions Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer Frequent use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and printers Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times (e.g., files, office supplies) Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching Work is typically performed in a professional office environment May require occasional travel or attendance at offsite meetings or events Normal visual acuity for reading and computer work Ability to communicate effectively in person and via electronic means The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this position.
