As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen and align data practices across the district, existing positions have been reorganized to better support schools. These are not new roles; they are revised versions of current positions. This change does not add staff or increase the district budget. Purpose Statement The District Data Specialist is a systems-minded, equity-centered leader who ensures that district data is accurate, meaningful, accessible, and used responsibly to inform instructional, operational, and strategic decision-making. This role blends technical fluency, analytical thinking, and strong relational skills to support schools, departments, and district leadership in using data as a tool for improved student outcomes. This role supports district priorities through stewardship of data systems, governance, compliance, analysis, and communication. District Data Specialists balance site-embedded and department-embedded support with districtwide systems work to ensure coherence, reliability, and impact across the data ecosystem. The data specialist role also serves as the district wide assessment team. This team coordinates and supports state assessments district wide. Success in these roles looks like… Project deliverables have a defined owner, purpose, audience, and refresh cadence communicated in plain language Willingness to learn learn new skills and apply those acquired skills to projects When projects get "messy," decisions, assumptions, and next steps are captured and shared, and blockers are escalated through the right channels Commitments on team projects are delivered on schedule, with status updated at regular intervals and risks escalated when deadlines are at risk Flexibility to tackle complex problems and engage authentically with systemic issues District dashboards, project deliverables, and data practices reflect consistency and coherence across sites, and changes are communicated using shared protocols. District Data Specialist Mission District Data Specialists ensure that Hopkins data systems and practices are accurate, protected, equitable, and actionable in service to instructional excellence, operational efficiency, and responsible stewardship. The team supports district priorities aligned to the Hopkins Learning Framework, Student Success Metrics, state and federal requirements, and Vision 2031. Positions Available - Data Specialist Specialty Areas We are seeking District Data Specialist team member(s) with divergent but complementary areas of expertise. Final assignments may emphasize a single specialty area or include responsibilities across multiple areas based on district needs and candidate strengths. Data Compliance, Governance & State/Federal Reporting Specialist Role Overview This specialization focuses on district leadership, partnership, and execution related to federal and state reporting, data privacy, and scheduling. Key Responsibilities Coordinate and submit state and federal data reports. Work with school staff district wide to develop and implement data collection processes to facilitate state and federal reporting. Enforce data governance, privacy, and security standards. Provide training on data compliance and regulatory requirements. Serve as district-level support for building schedules and scheduling tools. Business / Operations Data Specialist Role Overview This specialization focuses on district leadership, partnership, and execution related to district wide operational data. Key Responsibilities Analyze and fulfill data requests for operational departments. Support operational data processes and reporting, specifically in Hopkins operational departments: Enrollment, Nutrition, HR, Business office, Transportation and others. Serve as a change-management partner for department initiatives. Serve as data lead for various district software implementations Improve documentation and sustainability of operational data workflows. District Data Specialist - Data Collection & Research Role Overview This specialization focuses on district leadership, partnership, and execution related to data collection and analysis. Key Responsibilities Design, maintain, and document data collection processes for instructional and operational needs Review and analyze data to ensure it is accurate, consistent, and ready for reporting (identify gaps, patterns, trends) Prepare clean datasets for reporting, visualization, and strategic use Serve as the first point of contact for ad-hoc data requests. Support research and data inquiries Maintain district data documentation and knowledgebase. Data Communication & Visualization Specialist Role Overview This specialization focuses on district leadership, partnership, and execution related to building data visualizations, and building data literacy. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain Tableau dashboards and reports. Establish data communication protocols, including shared language and visual style guides Support stakeholder use and interpretation of visualized data. Promote data literacy through clear and accessible design. Continuous improvement of dashboards by collecting and incorporating stakeholder feedback District Data Specialist - Data Strategist Role Overview This specialization focuses on district leadership, partnership to ensure data is used effectively to support instructional planning, improvement, and decision-making Key Responsibilities Partner with school teams to guide data discussions, support goal-setting, and monitor progress over time Support instructional leaders by helping interpret data, contextualize instructional information, and align data collection practices to district standards. Participate in instructional leadership meetings (HILT, BILT, etc.) to bring data insight into planning and reflection Build instructional capacity for effective data use, modeling best practices for using data in classrooms and team settings Support data-informed instructional decisions by translating data into actionable insights for schools Essential Functions Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and responsible use across systems. Collaborate across departments and school sites to align data practices. Support professional learning and capacity-building for building staff. Center equity, transparency, and trust in all data practices. Advance district priorities through coherent data systems and processes. Bring instructional lens to the data team, guiding data analysis using instructional best practices and research. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in education, data, information systems, or a related field Experience working with complex data systems or analysis Ability to collaborate across departments and sites Preferred Experience in K-12 education environments Experience with SIS, assessment systems, or data visualization tools Experience facilitating adult learning or professional development
