Job Description
Job Summary The SQL Database Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server instances to ensure optimal performance and reliability. The role involves collaborating with developers to design scalable database structures, optimizing stored procedures, and monitoring system performance. Additional responsibilities include developing backup and recovery strategies, enforcing security policies, configuring high availability solutions, maintaining documentation, and supporting cross-functional teams. The position also requires staying current with database trends and recommending process improvements and automation. Please note that this position requires passing a California Law Enforcement Telecommunications (CLETS) background check, and authorization to work in the United Stats (see below for specifics) https://www.fbi.gov/services/cjis Duties and Responsibilities Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances across multiple environments Collaborate with developers to design and implement efficient, scalable database structures, schemas, and objects Implement and optimize stored procedures where appropriate Monitor and analyze database performance; identify and resolve bottlenecks and optimize queries Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies; perform regular backups and restores Establish and enforce database security policies; monitor access and ensure compliance Perform proactive system monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance tasks, and upgrades/patching Configure and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., clustering, mirroring) Create and maintain database documentation and generate performance, availability, and capacity reports Collaborate with cross-functional teams (developers, DevOps) to support development and deployment Stay current with database technologies and recommend improvements for automation and optimization Perform other duties as assigned Education and Experience 5+ years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator or similar role Experience working with SQL Server in a cloud environment Knowledge, Skills and Abilities In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2012 or later), including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting Strong understanding of database design principles, normalization, and query optimization Proficiency in SQL scripting and stored procedure development Experience with performance tuning and optimization tools Solid understanding of database security (authentication, authorization, encryption) Familiarity with high availability and disaster recovery solutions (clustering, mirroring, log shipping) Experience with backup and recovery strategies, including point-in-time recovery Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail Strong communication and collaboration skills, with ability to work in team environments
Work Environment :
Office setting with a moderate noise level. The employee will work at an individual workstation, using a telephone and computer.Physical Demands :
Must be able to remain seated for extended periods. Regular use of a computer and other office machinery, such as printers and copy machines. Occasional movement around the office. Frequent communication via telephone.Neumo Summary:
