Job Description Job Overview:
The Data Center Lead is responsible for the leadership and oversight of Data Center Operations for the DLIFLC Academic Network. This position ensures the proper configuration, security, and support of domain system servers, SAN, backup systems, identity management, and the overall security and high availability of the data center. The Data Center Lead plans, installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and manages all servers and applications, and implements improved configurations to meet evolving customer needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor the Data Center Operations team. Oversee all aspects of data center configuration, maintenance, and security. Coordinate with IT, cybersecurity, and application development teams to ensure seamless operations. Lead the planning, installation, maintenance (including after-hours and emergency support), and troubleshooting of all data center servers, storage, and backup systems. Manage and secure domain system servers, SAN, backup systems, and identity management solutions. Ensure the security and high availability of the data center, including business continuity, disaster recovery, and contingency operations. Assess customer needs and implement improved configurations and solutions. Maintain and update documentation for system architecture, design, security, business continuity, deployment, and operations. Oversee daily operations and maintenance of the data center, ensuring 24x7 availability and compliance with DoD and Army standards. Monitor and report on data center performance, incidents, and service levels. Lead incident response and recovery efforts for critical and non-critical data center events. Ensure compliance with configuration management, patching, backup, and restoration requirements. Support virtualization, cloud integration, and redundancy solutions. Provide technical guidance and training to data center staff and other IT personnel.
Competencies:
Advanced knowledge of data center operations, server and storage management, and backup systems. Expertise in VMware vSphere platform and hybrid cloud environments (Amazon, Microsoft, or Google cloud services). Experience maintaining high availability data centers and implementing business continuity/disaster recovery plans. Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills. Ability to assess and implement improved technical solutions. Experience in both application development/sustainment and operational support for large, highly scalable applications. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
Requirements Minimum Requirements/Education:
BA/BS from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 5+ years of experience, or AA/AS with 7+ years of experience.
Any one of the following:
IAT Level II (CySA+, Security+, CND, or SSCP) Certification and CE/OS Certification. 7 years of progressive experience as a system administrator. Experience leading a team. Experience maintaining a high availability data center. Experience with Amazon, Microsoft, or Google cloud services. Experience with VMware vSphere platform. Extensive experience in both application development/sustainment and operational support for large, highly scalable applications.

Based in Monterey, CA (Presidio of Monterey) with travel to additional sites including HI, AZ, CA, VA, and other
