U.S. citizen or green card holder; 3+ years U.S. residency About the Role Join a mission-critical team at the Department of Transportation headquarters as a Senior Database Administrator. Lead enterprise PostgreSQL and MySQL environments, drive cloud migrations, and ensure database security and performance across hybrid infrastructures. Make an impact supporting large-scale applications, collaborating closely with technical and business teams, and mentoring junior DBAs in a fast-paced, high-urgency environment. Responsibilities
- Lead installation, configuration, and maintenance of PostgreSQL and MySQL databases in both on-premises and AWS cloud environments.
- Plan, execute, and optimize cloud migrations, including lift-and-shift and modernization projects to AWS platforms.
- Design and implement high-availability, clustering, replication, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Oversee database security, access controls, encryption, and compliance with robust documentation and audit trails.
- Monitor and tune database performance, troubleshoot incidents, and drive root cause analysis for production issues.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams to streamline deployments and resolve incidents promptly.
- Automate operational workflows and establish best practices for AWS database administration.
- Mentor junior DBAs and share expertise in cloud migration and automation. Required Skills and Experience
- Hands-on expertise administering PostgreSQL and MySQL in enterprise and AWS cloud environments.
- Proven leadership in cloud migration projects using AWS RDS, Aurora, EC2, and MySQL Cluster.
- Advanced skills in clustering, replication, failover, high availability, and performance tuning.
- In-depth knowledge of secure database operations: encryption, IAM, SSL/TLS, backup/recovery, and compliance.
- Experience with database upgrades, patching, and version-controlled documentation.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and perform effectively under pressure in high-urgency operations.
- AWS Certified Database Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or equivalent certifications preferred.
- Willingness to provide on-site support (early/late shifts possible) and participate in on-call rotations. Preferred Skills
- Experience with Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL/MySQL.
- Automation using shell scripting, Python, Terraform, Ansible.
- Familiarity with AWS networking, storage, security, and monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus).
- DevOps, IaC, and CI/CD pipeline experience.
