Data Center Technician Pay Rate:
$29.00 - $45.00 per hour (Based on Experience) Position Summary We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to support the deployment, maintenance, and operation of critical infrastructure within large-scale data center environments. This role is responsible for hardware installations, network and structured cabling, break-fix support, equipment deployments, and asset management activities that ensure the reliability and uptime of mission-critical systems. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with computer hardware, network infrastructure, fiber and copper cabling, and data center operations. This position offers the opportunity to work in fast-paced enterprise and hyperscale environments while supporting cutting-edge technology infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Install, rack, stack, cable, and decommission servers, storage devices, and networking equipment. Perform hardware troubleshooting, diagnostics, and break-fix activities on enterprise infrastructure. Move, position, and implement large-scale enterprise equipment within data center environments. Install, terminate, test, and maintain fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure. Patch and label network and structured cabling according to established standards. Follow documented installation procedures, operational processes, and change management practices. Ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety, security, and quality standards. Support data center expansion projects, migrations, upgrades, and new equipment deployments. Perform inventory management, asset tracking, and equipment lifecycle activities. Utilize material handling equipment and tools safely and effectively. Document completed work, maintain accurate records, and update ticketing systems. Collaborate with engineering, networking, and operations teams to resolve technical issues. Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support as required. Maintain compliance with all data center operational, security, and safety policies. Travel & Work Location Requirements Ability to travel to or commute between multiple data center locations as needed. Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during onboarding, training, or while assigned facilities become operational. Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and project requirements. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation. Ability to travel within and outside the assigned regional work area as required. Required Qualifications High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. 1+ years of experience in Data Center Operations, Computer Hardware Repair, Infrastructure Cabling, Network Deployment, or related technical environments. Experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing server and network hardware. Knowledge of structured cabling systems, including fiber optic and copper cabling. Familiarity with data center operational procedures and best practices. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, CCENT, or equivalent. Experience supporting enterprise or hyperscale data center environments. Knowledge of network infrastructure, optical cabling types, transceivers, and cable testing equipment. Experience with asset management systems and ticketing platforms. Understanding of data center safety standards and operational methodologies. Physical Requirements Regularly lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds independently and participate in team lifts for equipment exceeding 40 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stretch, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods, including shifts lasting 8+ hours. Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and environments with varying noise levels. Safely ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and elevated platforms. Ability to work in a 24/7 operational environment and support emergency response or after-hours activities when required.
