Project Overview:
This role supports a specialized team focused on minimizing damage and operational impact to data center hardware. The team is responsible for inspecting, testing, and repairing critical components to ensure high reliability and performance within large-scale data center environments. The work involves maintaining quality standards and improving processes related to hardware handling and recovery.
Overall Responsibilities:
Act as a quality assurance specialist to monitor, identify, and reduce damage to data center hardware components. Support site leadership in improving handling, packaging, and storage practices through process reviews and spot checks. Assist in managing damaged part workflows, ensuring defective items are properly verified, documented, and isolated from functional inventory. Identify trends, issues, or risks related to hardware damage and escalate them appropriately. Provide support during field campaigns, including failure investigations and corrective actions.
Top Daily Responsibilities:
Conduct detailed inspections and repairs for damaged or at-risk hardware components. Perform quick functional testing of Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) to validate readiness for re-inventory (approximately 100 units per week). Verify reported hardware damage through inspection to confirm defect status (up to 100 parts per week). Perform basic repairs, including: Cleaning thermal paste from CPUs Straightening bent pins/connectors Replacing missing components (e.g., CPU frames, dust covers) Audit handling practices, electrostatic discharge (ESD) controls, and packaging methods across multiple data center process points.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent hands-on experience 3+ years of experience in a technical or hardware-focused role Working knowledge of data center hardware components (e.g., motherboards, memory modules, hard drives, network cards, optical devices) Basic failure analysis (FA) capability for electronic components Understanding of common mechanical and physical defects in hardware Ability to perform detailed visual inspections for extended periods Familiarity with inspection tools such as stereo microscopes and lighting systems Proficiency in using computers for tracking, reporting, and documentation Ability to create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate and influence teams Ability to handle moderate to heavy physical tasks (lifting, moving, pushing hardware equipment) Preferred (Non-Essential)
Qualifications:
Experience in quality assurance within the electronics or hardware industry Background in troubleshooting and repair of server, storage, or networking systems Familiarity with spreadsheets, databases, and data tracking tools
