Job Description

Junior Oracle Database Administrator Responsibilities & QualificationsWe are seeking a Junior Oracle Database Administrator to provide entry-level to intermediate database administration support for Oracle database environments supporting Census Bureau systems.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Two (2) or more years of hands-on experience as an Oracle Database Administrator or in a database support role.
  • Experience must include supporting Oracle databases, perform SQL and PL/SQL development tasks, and assist with operational support and troubleshooting in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting government agencies, customers, or contracts within federal environments.
This includes the Intelligence Community (IC), Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Civil agencies, and military organizations. Prior experience supporting the same or similar contract, with an in-depth understanding of the customer environment, requirements, and operational landscape, is highly desirable.
EDUCATION
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field is required.
  • Fifteen (15) years of applicable experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AREAS PREFERRED
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience performing Oracle database administration duties.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, including development of basic to moderately complex queries and database objects.
  • Experience providing day-to-day support and maintenance for Oracle databases.
  • Experience supporting production database environments and responding to operational issues.
  • Experience with operating systems including Sun Solaris 10.0 or later and Red Hat Linux 6.x or later.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance and supervision as needed.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides day-to-day operational support for Oracle database environments under the guidance of senior database administrators.
  • Assists with installation, configuration, monitoring, and routine maintenance of Oracle databases (11.x, 12.x, and higher).
  • Supports 24x7 production and on-call troubleshooting activities to maintain database availability and performance.
  • Develops and maintains database objects using Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, including packages, procedures, functions, views, and cursors.
  • Writes and supports SQL queries and works with database objects such as tables and views.
  • Assists with basic database performance monitoring and tuning activities.
  • Supports Oracle product troubleshooting and assists with problem resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Supports Oracle database environments operating on Sun Solaris and Red Hat Linux platforms.
  • Documents database procedures, configurations, and operational activities in accordance with DCoE standards.
  • Works collaboratively with application teams, system administrators, and senior DBAs to support mission operations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow established processes while developing technical skills and independence over time.
  • Work closely on site with labs to deeply understand the complexities of day-to-day operations in a laboratory research environment.
