Job Description

Senior MySQL Database Administrator Responsibilities & QualificationsWe are seeking a Senior MySQL Database Administrator to provide advanced database administration, performance tuning, and operational support for Oracle MySQL environments supporting mission-critical Census Bureau systems.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience
  • Five (5) or more years of hands-on experience as a MySQL Database Administrator supporting enterprise and production database environments.
  • Experience must include MySQL installation, configuration, maintenance, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and operational support in a multi-tiered environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting government agencies, customers, or contracts within federal environments.
This includes the Intelligence Community (IC), Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Civil agencies, and military organizations. Prior experience supporting the same or similar contract, with an in-depth understanding of the customer environment, requirements, and operational landscape, is highly desirable. Education
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field is required. Fifteen (15) years of applicable experience may be substituted for degree requirements. Clearance

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AREAS PREFERRED
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience performing database administration duties, specializing in Oracle MySQL.
  • Strong experience supporting MySQL databases (8.x or higher) in enterprise production environments.
  • Excellent SQL skills, including writing complex queries and working with database objects such as tables and views.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Hands-on experience supporting large-scale, multi-tiered database environments.
  • Experience with MySQL product troubleshooting and advanced problem resolution.
  • Experience configuring and administering MySQL databases on Linux platforms.
  • Experience with operating systems including Sun Solaris 10.0 or later and Red Hat Linux 6.x or later.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides senior-level administration and operational support for Oracle MySQL databases in large, multi-tiered production environments.
  • Performs installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, monitoring, and maintenance of MySQL databases (8.x or higher).
  • Provides 24x7 production and on-call troubleshooting support to ensure database availability and performance.
  • Performs advanced database performance tuning, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and capacity planning.
  • Develops and supports complex SQL queries and database objects such as tables, views, and stored routines.
  • Supports database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery operations to ensure data integrity and resilience.
  • Troubleshoots MySQL database issues and performs root cause analysis and resolution of database-related incidents.
  • Supports MySQL database environments running on Linux and UNIX-based operating systems, including Sun Solaris and Red Hat Linux.
  • Works directly with onsite and offsite customers to gather requirements, analyze needs, and implement effective database solutions.
  • Collaborates with application teams, system administrators, and cybersecurity personnel to support secure database operations.
  • Documents database configurations, standards, procedures, and operational activities in accordance with DCoE policies.
  • Works independently while providing technical guidance to junior and mid-level database administrators as needed.
