Job Description

Database Administrator 2 - ( 26141265 ) Why live in Helena, Montana? Helena is surrounded by rolling hills and lofty mountains and is tucked below the Continental Divide. The Montana Board of Crime Control's (MBCC) mission is to proactively contribute to public safety, crime prevention and victim assistance through planning, policy development and coordination of the justice system in partnership with citizens, government and communities in Montana. In support of this mission, MBCC is comprised of twenty-one dedicated employees possessing a shared vision of public service for Montana's most vulnerable citizens What is this career opportunity? This position provides database design, development, and administration support for MBCC's database hosting services and to assist with deployment of state standard database technology. The duties typically involve creating and configuring production databases using established procedures, database development, backup and recovery strategies, technical support, and software patch management and maintenance of relational database systems for mission-critical operations. This includes configuring database parameters; modifying database environments through coding, testing, and implementation; and running test programs to validate functionality and correct errors. Duties also include planning and implementing database security measures, managing user access and permissions, and ensuring data security protocols are in place and functioning. The position involves making strategic decisions about database design, maintenance and tuning, as well as diagnosing and troubleshooting complex database issues, monitoring database performance, and performing performance tuning. The Database Administrator also installs upgrades and patches and supports user needs by extracting data and responding to data requests using existing tools. As agency priorities dictate, the Database Administrator must be able to carry out any assignment in the section with minimal retraining and may be assigned responsibility for project components. What are we looking for?
Education and Experience:
A bachelor's degree in a computer science related field; and Two years experience working in a variety of database environments; or Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Preference will be given to candidates with specific experience in: Relational database management systems (RDMS) such MS SQL Server or Oracle. Database administration, automation, business rule enforcement, web design and development, and performance optimization techniques.

Build trust and credibility in constructing effective working relationships with a variety of individuals. Manage varying deadlines and multiple projects; responding positively to changes in direction, priorities, responsibilities or assignment. Keep large projects, involving multiple parties, moving forward and delivering on time. Provide guidance and instructions to other agency staff. Evaluate program requirements relative to systems development; conduct research; exercise sound judgment in solving programs and make decisions where few precedents exist.
