Data Center Power Technician Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled UPS / Data Center Power Technician with strong commissioning experience to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair critical power systems supporting mission-critical data center operations. Commissioning experience is required for this role. UPS /
Data Center Power Technician Responsibilities:
Install, commission, and start up UPS systems, battery systems, PDUs, switchgear, ATS, and static transfer switches during new builds and system upgrades Perform full commissioning of critical power systems including functional testing, system verification, and startup validation Execute preventive maintenance on UPS systems, battery banks (VRLA and lithium-ion), PDUs, switchgear, generators, and related infrastructure Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic faults in three-phase power systems, control circuits, and power electronics Conduct commissioning-level load bank testing, battery testing, infrared thermography scans, and power quality analysis Respond to emergency service calls, system failures, and commissioning punch-list items to restore or verify system operation Interpret one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and commissioning documentation to support installation and startup activities Support data center commissioning projects, system integration, and infrastructure expansions in live environments Ensure all commissioning activities meet NFPA 70E, OSHA, manufacturer specifications, and site commissioning standards Complete detailed commissioning reports, service documentation, test results, and maintenance logs Utilize electrical testing equipment including multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, and power analyzers during commissioning and troubleshooting Work with UPS systems including Schneider Electric, Vertiv, Eaton, and Mitsubishi Electric platforms Verify operation of switchgear, PDUs, ATS, generators, SCADA systems, and power monitoring equipment during commissioning phases Ensure continuous uptime and proper startup validation of mission-critical electrical systems in data center environments
Qualifications:
Strong commissioning experience with UPS systems, battery systems, and critical power infrastructure (REQUIRED) Background in electrical, electronics, industrial power systems, or military power-generation experience Experience with three-phase power systems and critical electrical distribution Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and commissioning documents Skilled in troubleshooting electrical systems, controls, and power electronics Experience with load bank testing, battery systems, and infrared thermography preferred
NFPA 70E, OSHA
10/30, or NETA certifications preferred Must be physically able to perform hands-on electrical work, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working at heights Must have reliable transportation and standard electrical hand tools Must be eligible to work in the United States Must be able to work in full PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots
