Data center consolidation, colocation migration, infrastructure / applications (healthcare environment) Role Overview This Business Analyst will focus on the data center consolidation and colocation migration program, with an immediate goal to plan and support the decommissioning of three data centers by year‑end.
The role centers on:
Understanding what applications and servers are in each data center Determining what it will take (technically and organizationally) to move them into colocation sites or other destinations Identifying re‑IP challenges, hard‑coded IPs, and application‑specific constraints Driving structured engagement with application teams and vendors so infrastructure can execute with clear requirements Key Responsibilities 1. Data center inventory and scoping Work from existing inventories of servers and applications for: The two Swedish data centers The one Plainfield data center Validate what exists in each location: Servers, applications, OS versions, IP ranges Application ownership and vendor relationships Confirm and refine inventories to ensure leadership has an accurate and actionable picture of what must be moved, upgraded, or left in place. 2. Application and vendor discovery for colocation moves For each application / system in scope: Engage application owners and vendors to understand: Whether the application can be moved as‑is Whether it can tolerate re‑IP or has hard‑coded IP addresses What steps, environmental changes, or downtime windows are required Identify cases where: A new environment must be built (e.g., due to vendor requirements) Vendor or FDA‑related constraints limit upgrade/migration options Document how each application can be moved and what dependencies exist. 3. Analyze level of effort and requirements Translate discovery into clear, structured requirements for each application/data center component, such as: Level of effort to move Need for vendor involvement Downtime / cutover strategy Whether an in‑place move is possible or whether an intermediate location is required Differentiate between: Short‑term colocation move requirements Overlapping life cycle considerations 4. Planning inputs for data center decommissioning Provide the program with: A prioritized list of applications/servers per data center A view of which systems can move, which require exceptions, and which may need intermediate solutions if they cannot move by deadline.
Help leadership ensure that:
If something remains in a data center after closure date, it is due to an explicit, documented decision, not lack of visibility or planning. 5. Documentation and ongoing tracking Create structured documentation and tracking mechanisms that: Show the state of each application in relation to the data center consolidation goals. Can be used as a living document as the program evolves. Build dashboards / status reports that: Show progress toward decommissioning each data center Highlight blocked items, owners, and escalations Support communication up to CIO/CTO level. 6. Stakeholder engagement and escalation Work closely with: Infrastructure and data center engineers Application teams across multiple entities Vendors Ensure consistent follow‑through: Schedule and facilitate meetings between app owners and tech owners when needed. Track responses, non‑responses, and missed commitments. Required Experience & Skills Core experience Experience as a Business Analyst on infrastructure / data center / migration-oriented initiatives. Proven track record working in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments involving: Data centers Colocation providers Application teams and third‑party vendors Technical & analytical skills
Understanding of:
Data center architectures and basic migration concepts (e.g., moving to colos) IP addressing and re‑IP challenges, including risks of hard‑coded IPs OS and database components commonly involved in such moves. Strong ability to work with and refine inventories and large data sets. Able to produce clear, structured documentation and dashboards (Excel / Power BI / Tableau or similar). Soft skills Independently motivated, capable of driving their portion of the program without heavy PM oversight. Skilled at cross‑functional coordination and escalation in a large organization.
