This division supports a wide range of functions including computer systems, software applications, databases, corporate web servers, local area networks, wide area networks, information security and audio visual equipment. Primary Responsibilities This position participates in the design, creation, monitoring, and support of computerized databases in mainframe and client/server environments. The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for quality control and auditing of databases to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data. The incumbent works with management to develop database strategies to support Company needs. Consults with and advises users on access to various databases. The incumbent works directly with users to resolve data conflicts and inappropriate data usage. This position provides technical direction and leadership to members of the Data Administration staff. The incumbent monitors the utilization of database related resources, evaluating and making recommendations for changes to database structures to meet current and future performance needs. The incumbent supports the proper utilization of the database management system software products and associated tools for data retrieval and database administration. The incumbent develops testing plans for future releases of relational database platforms. This position is involved in evaluating, planning and implementing new database management system (DBMS)-related technologies such as distributed databases. Responsibilities are carried out with a minimum of reference to superiors except to consult with them on technical questions, report on progress or alert them to special problems. Evening, night or weekend hours are required. The position requires on-call availability. Summary of Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other equivalent technical degree and a minimum of 5 years of relational database management systems (RDBMS) experience; or in lieu of a bachelor's degree, a minimum of 7 years of RDBMS experience with a database administration certification in one of the following platforms: Db2, Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server, or Sybase Well-developed logical reasoning, problem solving, and analytical skills, along with a willingness to pursue difficult problems through extensive research Experience translating technical knowledge for others understanding both verbally and written Experience communicating regularly with various users of the corporate database, both from within Information Technology (IT), the user community and technical representatives from third party software vendors Experience operating in an open office environment with frequent interruption Experience establishing and enforcing standards and policies associated with physical database design and access within established guidelines Experience coordinating and promoting the use of the corporate database both within and outside of Information Technology (IT) while facilitating the maximization use of the corporate database Experience providing appropriate access and authorization to database structures as determined by Security Administration and ensure that all data access is within established security policies Experience conducting problem identification and resolution of database management system related problems in order to maximize the availability of corporate databases Experience evaluating, testing, and implementing new data related software and enhancements to installed software and coordinate with Information Technology (IT) resources Experience conducting research and assist in the evaluation of new technologies in the areas of database administration Willingness to work evenings, nights and weekends Willingness to be on call as needed A working knowledge of TSO strongly preferred A working knowledge of Db2 for z/OS DML, and familiarity with Db2 DDL and DCL strongly preferred Experience a Db2 for z/OS Cobol programmer preferred Experience as a Db2 for z/OS data architect preferred Experience with Db2 for z/OS physical database administration duties preferred
