Job Description:
The Lead Implementation Specialist (IS) serves as the field execution leader and technical subject matter expert for large-scale data center and hyperscale infrastructure deployments. This role is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of projects through ownership of quality, execution, and field coordination. The IS operates across the full project lifecycle, from initial site validation through final closeout. Depending on the scope and complexity of the engagement, the IS flexes between providing remote quality assurance and support for standard deployments, and leading onsite execution for complex, large-scale data center environments. Owning the outcome is central to this role. The IS is accountable not only for completing installation tasks, but for ensuring work is performed correctly, issues are identified early, and project risks are communicated and escalated to maintain overall project health. Key Responsibilities Technical Execution Data Center Testing, Validation & Execution Oversee and support testing and validation activities across fiber, copper, and active infrastructure systems Ensure all testing equipment is available, functional, and properly configured prior to use Inspect equipment condition and remove defective tools from service; escalate replacement needs as required Ensure teams are equipped with required consumables to complete testing activities without delay Fiber Cabling Validation Validate testing across multiple deployment stages. Copper Cabling Validation Verify copper installations across applicable rack environments Confirm cable identification standards (color coding) are followed Validate testing execution using approved tools (e.g., Fluke
DSX-5000
where required) Ensure all required test results are completed and properly recorded Copper IPMI Validate installation within NA and NB rows Confirm proper cable identification (yellow, blue, green) Verify connectivity using toner testing tools (e.g., Klein Tools) Active Electrical Cable (AEC) Validation Validate installation within SU racks Confirm cable identification standards (e.g., purple cabling) Verify connectivity through visual inspection of switch indicator lights Support final validation during data hall power-up Fiber Cabling Execution Leadership Lead and own physical fiber patching execution across all deployment stages. Ensure correct fiber routing, bend radius control, slack management, and patching discipline Enforce labeling, port accuracy, and rack?to?rack connectivity intent prior to handoff Serve as the escalation point for physical fiber issues impacting deployment progression or rack readiness Field Leadership & Execution Oversight Act as the primary field point of contact for execution and technical coordination Lead and coordinate vendor partners to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, and standards Conduct regular field walkthroughs, including data hall inspections, to verify quality and progress Maintain active engagement with field teams and vendor leads across all active workstreams Identify issues early and provide corrective guidance to maintain execution standards Mentor field technicians and provide troubleshooting support as needed Ownership, Risk Management & Escalation Own the outcome of field execution from start to finish Identify and communicate risks related to scope, design, schedule, or quality Escalate issues to project leadership to maintain project alignment and prevent delays Ensure field challenges are visible and addressed before impacting delivery Support overall project success beyond individual task completion Documentation, Reporting & Quality Assurance Maintain accurate records of site surveys, installation progress, testing results, and field activities Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted in a timely manner Review testing results and field reports for inconsistencies or quality concerns Provide regular updates to project leadership on progress, risks, and field conditions Support audits and post-project evaluations with detailed field insights Vendor & Partner Management Evaluate vendor performance, workmanship, and adherence to project standards Support vendor onboarding through onsite validation of capabilities Provide structured feedback on vendor quality and reliability Recommend vendor improvements or escalation where performance gaps exist Qualifications Required 7+ years of experience in data center infrastructure deployment or field implementation Strong understanding of structured cabling systems and installation practices Experience with fiber and copper testing methodologies and associated tools Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and construction documents Experience working with vendors and field teams in an execution environment Familiarity with field tracking tools (e.g., Fieldwire or similar) Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Preferred Experience in hyperscale or large-scale data center deployments OSHA certification or equivalent safety training Experience developing Methods of Procedure (MOPs) or standardized processes Background in vendor quality control and performance evaluation Working Conditions Combination of onsite and remote work depending on project requirements Travel required 85%+, including extended onsite assignments for up to 4-5 weeks at a time with downtime planned during phase breaks. Work may include day and night shift coverage based on project demands Work performed in active construction and data center environments Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and comply with PPE and safety requirements
