Fannin Street, Houston, TX 77002 $54 an hour - Contract $54 an hour - Contract SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) responsible for the installation, configuration, security, and performance of critical Microsoft SQL Server environments. This role ensures that data is consistently available, secure from unauthorized access, and optimized for high performance. Should have experience working in a large complex SQL environment. The DBA should have expertise in AOAG (Always On Availability Groups) and transactional replication. The person should have experience supporting a 24/7/365 application and environment. Job Summary We are looking for an experienced SQL Server DBA to manage our organization's database systems. You will be the primary technologist for database design, implementation, and troubleshooting. Your goal is to ensure high availability, data integrity, and disaster recovery readiness across production and development environments.
Key Responsibilities Installation & Maintenance:
Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances and related tools like SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS ).
Performance Tuning:
Monitor system health and optimize database performance through index management, query tuning, and addressing CPU or I/O bottlenecks.
Security Management:
Implement role-based security, manage user permissions, and ensure data encryption at rest and in transit.
Backup & Recovery:
Develop and test comprehensive backup and disaster recovery strategies, including Always On Availability Groups and Log Shipping.
Automation:
Author and maintain scripts (T-SQL, PowerShell) to automate repetitive maintenance tasks and regular health checks.
Support & Collaboration:
Provide 24/7 on-call support for critical outages and collaborate with developers on schema refinement and database design.
Required Skills & Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
Technical Expertise:
Strong proficiency in T-SQL and database administration tools. Hands-on experience with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options. Familiarity with Windows Server environments and Active Directory. Knowledge of cloud platforms like Azure SQL or AWS RDS is highly preferred.

$54.00 per hour
