Job Description:
We are currently seeking a Mid-Level SQL Server Database Administrator. We are looking for an eager and passionate Mid-level DBA to join our data management team and develop their skillset while helping us build out and maximize the performance of our customers data warehouse environment alongside a senior DBA. The ideal candidate is someone with an interest in developing, administering, and maintaining a high-performance database environment at the center of a data-driven organization. The Database Administrator will be responsible for providing daily maintenance and support for customer SQL database(s), including backup/restore/validations, writing and evaluating stored procedures and working with developers to implement customer initiatives. Responsibilities will include addressing escalations from the help desk and assisting with project deliverables as required. The position will be based in
Alexandria, VA Responsibilities:
Work closely with the database administrator and data engineer to maintain our current environment and facilitate the development and migration of the new data warehouse infrastructure Create databases, tables, views, stored procedures, and functions in response to the needs of the organization and business units Create and maintain indexes, monitor their usage, and tune appropriately Review and optimize SQL queries running against the databases to maximize their performance Monitor and review the database and reporting environment, identify gaps and deficiencies, make recommendations on improvements Monitor the state and functionality of storage infrastructure, such as data and log file sizes, backups, and raw data storage and archival Maintain change management documentation to development and production environments Create and schedule routine database maintenance packages and ensure they are running as expected Identify performance and security optimization opportunities Assists with delivering weekly metrics and stat reporting Administers various SQL Server DBs (versions ranges from
SQL 2000
up to
SQL 2016
), third party-and client developed Reviews stored procedures and tables to ensure optimal performance Ensures the safety and availability of data through backup and recovery/restore procedures Creates stored procedures for recurring tasks Research data issues and proposes/implements preventive actions Assists in implementation and management of database security Assists application developers in their database environments Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job Performs other duties as assigned/necessary Writes documents and guidelines for tasks/projects as well as update existing documents as necessary
Desirable Qualifications:
5+ years of hands-on SQL Server experience utilizing DBA skills.
Including but not limited to:
Installation of SQL Server Upgrading and patching Backup and restore of databases Implementation of best practices Security and login management Troubleshooting via available tools (SQL and Windows error logs, job output, PowerShell, etc.) Basic familiarity with SQL Server indexing and an overview of performance concepts. Strong written and verbal communication skills to build and maintain positive relationships with team members and clients. Interest in and demonstrated ability to pick up on new technology skills, especially with regards to SQL Server concepts (High Availability, Clustering, Virtualization, Performance, etc.) Active Secret Clearance IAT II Certification IAW DoD (For DoD IAT Level 2, you must have one of the following certifications - CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+
CE or CND:
EC-Council's Certified Network Defender (CND)) or IAT III.
