Cloud Geospatial Database Manager Position Overview The Cloud Geospatial Database Manager leads the architecture, implementation, operations, and security of cloud and on-premises geospatial database systems supporting DCSE's Asset Management, Utility Network, RoundSheet, and enterprise GIS deployments. The role manages Azure

Server cloud architectures, Oracle and PostgreSQL geospatial databases, and ArcGIS Enterprise data stores. It ensures performance, reliability, compliance, and provides leadership, client support, and project delivery oversight. Cloud & Geospatial Database Architecture
  • Design and manage Azure
SQL + SQL
Server architectures for geospatial workloads.
  • Administer Oracle and PostgreSQL databases supporting ArcGIS Enterprise and DCSE applications.
  • Implement HA/DR architectures including Data Guard, RAC, Always On AG, clustering, and replication. Operational Oversight
  • Monitor database performance, availability, and system health.
  • Review logs, alerts, backups, and monitoring dashboards to address issues proactively.
  • Oversee DBA team activities and provide technical direction.
  • Ensure compliance with DCSE policies, security standards, and best practices.
  • Recommend improvements in performance, storage, optimization, and lifecycle management.
  • Manage patching, upgrades, security updates, and environment hardening.
  • Perform data desensitization for UAT and staging databases.
  • Respond to operational communications and incident updates. Performance, High Availability & Security
  • Conduct advanced performance tuning and diagnostic reviews.
  • Maintain HA/DR architectures to meet RPO/RTO.
  • Implement security controls: encryption (TDE), auditing, access control, and masking.
  • Review audit logs for compliance and anomaly detection.
  • Manage user access, permissions, and governance. Capacity Planning & Scalability
  • Analyze data growth and plan for future expansion.
  • Optimize architectures for large geospatial datasets and ArcGIS Enterprise workloads.
  • Manage cloud compute, storage, indexing, and resource allocation. Cloud Migrations & Modernization
  • Lead migrations of SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL databases to Azure.
  • Apply cloud governance, automation, cost optimization, and security hardening.
  • Integrate monitoring via Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Log Analytics. Database Project Management
  • Lead database projects including upgrades, migrations, and deployments.
  • Define timelines, allocate resources, and track progress.
  • Ensure new deployments follow security, licensing, and configuration standards. Vendor Management & Collaboration
  • Coordinate with database and cloud vendors under established SLAs.
  • Ensure licensing compliance.
  • Collaborate with GIS analysts, developers, PMs, and solution architects. Automation, CI/CD & Monitoring
  • Build CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
  • Automate DR validation, backups, and system checks.
  • Maintain dashboards for health monitoring, performance, and uptime. Data Warehouse & BI Integration
  • Integrate geospatial and operational data with BI platforms.
  • Support ETL/ELT pipelines and optimize reporting/analytics workloads.
  • Build spatially enabled BI dashboards combining GIS layers with operational datasets. Client-Facing Responsibilities
  • Attend client meetings to present architecture and recommendations.
  • Lead workshops on cloud design, HA/DR, ArcGIS Enterprise databases, and best practices.
  • Support RFP responses, proposals, and technical solution documents.
  • Present modernization roadmaps to executives and technical teams.
